The Paramedic Director of Operations is a critical leadership position within an emergency medical services (EMS) organization. This role involves overseeing and managing the daily operations of the EMS department, ensuring high standards of care, and coordinating with various stakeholders. The ideal candidate should be an experienced paramedic with strong leadership skills and a commitment to excellence in emergency medical services.
Responsibilities:
- Leadership and Management:
- Oversee the recruitment, training, and certification of EMS personnel to ensure a highly skilled workforce.
- Develop and implement emergency medical service protocols, policies, and procedures to maintain high standards of care.
- Establish organizational goals and objectives for the EMS department.
- Direct all assigned EMS personnel, including paramedics, EMTs, and administrative staff.
- Operational Oversight:
- Manage fleet maintenance, ensuring that all ambulances and equipment are in optimal condition.
- Create and maintain schedules to ensure that ALS (Advanced Life Support) standards are met 24/7.
- Coordinate with EMS field personnel to ensure timely and appropriate delivery of services.
- Acquire and maintain knowledge of local, state, and federal laws and regulations related to pre-hospital emergency and non-emergency medical services.
- Budget and Administration:
- Assist in preparing and administering the annual EMS department budget.
- Manage EMS operations, including efficient ordering of medical supplies and equipment.
- Supervise the effective operation, utilization, and maintenance of medical equipment.
- Ensure timely completion and submission of patient care reports and billing documentation.
- Compliance and Reporting:
- Ensure compliance with all Louisiana Department of Health and Hospital laws and regulations.
- Act as the designated agent with the DEA (Drug Enforcement Administration).
- Address any subsequent billing matters promptly.
- Strategic Planning:
- Participate in the development and implementation of system and program strategic planning.
- Evaluate goals, objectives, priorities, and activities to improve performance and outcomes.
- Recommend and establish administrative controls and improvements.
- Advisory Role:
- Serve as an advisor to elected officials on matters related to emergency medical services.
Qualifications:
- Must be a licensed Paramedic.
- Strong leadership and organizational skills.
- Knowledge of EMS protocols, regulations, and best practices.
- Experience in fleet management and medical supply inventory.
- Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities.
