POSITION SUMMARY
Under the supervision of the President/CEO plans, implements, and directs the Nursing Service department, its programs, policies and procedures in accordance with current State and Federal guidelines.

Essential Functions Statement(s)
- Plans, develops, organizes and directs the Nursing Service Department, its programs and activities, in accordance with current Federal and State regulations.
- Develops and updates the nursing service objectives and statement of philosophy. Interprets these to nursing and administrative personnel.
- Formulates, writes and updates policies and procedures for nursing department.
- Develops and administers the annual nursing department budget.
- Plans for and secures adequate supplies and equipment for the department.
- Meets regularly with administration, medical and nursing personnel, as well as other related departments in planning Nursing Services, programs and activities. Attends meetings as required and assigned.
- Monitors and directs licensed personnel. Responsible for the hiring, evaluation and termination of employees. Makes job assignments according to ability and qualifications. Monitors scheduling of employees to meet Riverview's needs. Assures that all nursing personnel have valid and current licenses to practice in Washington State.
- Leadership skills that help employees achieve goals that contribute to the growth and efficiency of the organization
- Assists with planning the staff Development programs. Conducts NAC and licensed staff meetings. Conducts in-services or one-on-one instruction to staff as needed.
- Ability to see, produce and present training in areas that staff are lacking in training.
- Ensures that resident needs are being met. Assist with planning of Nursing care by consulting with nursing personnel, physicians and other departments on specific resident problems or needs.
- Assists with any State or Federal Surveys. Reviews Nursing Care Consultant reports and the State and Federal surveys for deficiencies and plans appropriate corrective actions.
- Evaluates residents during rounds and Quality Assurance audits. Reports findings to nursing personnel and when indicated, administration.
- Audits clinical records for appropriate content, accuracy and completeness to assure that the clinical record is descriptive of both the care provider and the resident's response.
- Maintains good rapport with families, residents and employees, in the Assisted Living, Memory Car and retirement community.
- Review resident, family and personnel grievances or complaints using the Communication Sheet. Makes necessary reports to administration.
- Maintains professional competency by participation in continuing education programs.
- Represents the facility and nursing department in professional and community activities.
- Must be able to read, write, speak and understand the English language. Ability to give and follow oral and written instructions.
- Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with employees, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies and the general public.
- Must possess superior assessment skills and the ability to act independently within the scope of practice.
- Ability to make decisions when problems arise.
- Ability to work as a member of a team.
- Ability to maintain the confidentiality of resident information.
- Must comply with current Tuberculosis Test requirements.
- Must comply with established Personnel Policies and all other Riverview policies and procedures.
- Dress must be according the Nursing dress code.
- Must attend required in-service training.
SKILLS & ABILITIES
Education: Bachelor's Degree (four year college or university)
Experience: Recent experience in Geriatric nursing, MDS and Medicare regulations. Two years supervisory experience required.
Computer Skills: General computer skills
Certificates & Licenses Required: Current Washington State RN license.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
This is an indoor position. Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday. Must be able to lift residents, equipment, and supplies weighing up to 50 pounds. Employees in this position have occupational exposure to blood borne Pathogens.

- PTO is accrued per hour worked and accrual rates vary based on years of service completed. Accrual rates range from 0.03847 to 0.09616 hours accrued for each hour worked. Unused PTO rolls over each year up to a maximum total of 315 hours. Supplemental employees do not accrue PTO.
- Paid Sick Leave is accrued separate from PTO at an accrual rate of 1 hour of sick leave for every 40 hours worked.
