The Director of Government and Regulatory Affairs works with the VP of Government and Regulatory Affairs to provide strategic direction and implementation of Catholic Health’s mission through engagement with elected officials, government partners, industry leaders, community leaders, business officials and regional stakeholders.
Job Details:Key Responsibilities:
- Advocate for Catholic Health before local, state and federal elected officials and agencies.
- Build and foster relationships with governmental staff/officials, industry stakeholders and advocates on policy issues.
- Work with the VP of Community Outreach to develop strategic community partnerships and health outreach plans throughout the Long Island region.
- Oversee public events throughout the Catholic Health System.
- Assist with developing and executing strategic community outreach plans to support capital projects.
- Collaborate with the SVP of Business Development to identify business partnership opportunities.
- Represent Catholic Health at local and state governmental hearings, agency meetings, and healthcare policy events to maintain subject matter expertise and develop relationships with stakeholders.
- Represent Catholic Health at professional and industry events.
- Draft letters and public comments to administrative officials either supporting or seeking clarification/expressing concern over new regulatory policies and develop analysis for dissemination to members and internal staff.
- Represent Government Affairs with external stakeholders, and on internal Catholic Health work groups and cross departmental collaborative initiatives.
- Develop and maintain subject matter expertise on various health policy issues and partners with corporate communications and public relations on providing insights and key talking points for the media
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:
- Demonstrates understanding of Governmental operations at Federal, State and Local levels.
- Effective planner and communicator with the highest level of integrity, excellent judgment and discretion, and demonstrated understanding of the workings of Government at all levels.
- Understanding of Governmental policy-making processes, including an understanding of the regulatory structure and roles in local and state governmental agencies. In-depth understanding of compliance laws regulating political activity.
- Demonstrated ability to research and analyze issues related to governmental actions and proposals.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate and work effectively with a broad range of Government officials at all levels.
- Organizational awareness and resourcefulness - understanding of whom to engage in order to identify solutions and resolve issues
- High degree of personal integrity in order to recognize and manage access to sensitive information about the health system, our strategy, results, people and issues being addressed
- Excellent judgment, relationship management skills, impact and influence capability
Minimum Qualifications:
Education: A Bachelor’s degree in political science or related field is required. Graduate degree preferred.
Experience: Five or more years’ experience in Government Affairs, advocacy, and health policy is required. Knowledge of relevant laws and requirements related to Government Affairs functions. Proven track record of building relationships with local, State and Federal agency staff. Strong written and oral communication skills.
