ABOUT PPTNM

Planned Parenthood of Tennessee and North Mississippi is one of Tennessee's oldest and largest private, non-profit health care agencies. For over 75 years, PPTNM has remained committed to providing high-quality, affordable reproductive services and education throughout Tennessee, north Mississippi, and parts of Arkansas and Kentucky. We have four health center locations in Tennessee: Memphis, Nashville and Knoxville.

JOB SUMMARY

The Director of Education & Training is a seasoned educator who manages all education and training activities of PPTNM. Under the direction of the Vice President of External Affairs and in close consultation with the Chief People Officer, the Director will design, develop, deliver, and evaluate educational programs for youth and adults in the PPTNM service area, as well as for PPTNM staff and partner agencies. In this dual capacity, the Director will work with community leaders to create learning experiences that reduce cultural and communication barriers to accessing comprehensive sexuality education services and reproductive health services. This pivotal role must cultivate and maintain productive relationships with partner agencies and youth-serving organizations to create learning opportunities that advance PPTNM organizational priorities. As the strategic driver of internal education initiatives, the Director will collaborate with PPTNM leadership to facilitate new hire orientation, technical training, and professional development in person and on virtual platforms.

Essential Functions:

  • Supervises, guides, trains, and motivates Education Department staff.

  • Responsible for setting annual and long-term education and training goals and strategies, in collaboration with senior leadership.

  • Assess the education and training needs of PPTNM staff, as well as those of external community professionals; identify gaps between current and desired outcomes; develop programs and materials to meet those needs and implement training and education, as appropriate.

  • Plans, creates and executes internal training calendar, including new hire, refresher, technical, new process, and systems trainings.

  • Manages the creation and maintenance of culturally and linguistically appropriate comprehensive sexuality education and training curricula, education and training materials, equipment, and teaching tools. Tailors program content and delivery, when necessary, to the objectives of the department/organization and needs of the program participants, being sure to center those most marginalized.

  • Works with contacts in the community to expand opportunities for outreach education and training. Serves on Education-specific community boards and committees, and represents PPTNM on community task forces, collaborative groups, and coalitions.

  • Monitors the departmental budgets and the day-to-day operations of the Education team.

  • Manages the Learning Management System and other program records in accordance with affiliate, grant, and departmental needs. Produces monthly reports on program activities, accomplishments and challenges, including program statistics, evaluation, and demographic data.

  • Collaborate with the Advocacy team on local and statewide policy initiatives which support comprehensive sexual and reproductive health education.

  • Assists Development staff with concepts and preparation of grants in support of PPTNM’s education mission.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Technical Skills: Knowledge of standard instruction and curriculum development practices and processes including Understanding By Design (UBD) lesson-planning framework, competency-based learning, and Learning Management Systems (LMS). Advanced mastery of in-person and remote-delivery training tools such as PowerPoint, Prezi, GoToMeeting, GoogleMeet, Zoom, SharePoint, and/or other similar learning development and delivery tools, as well as other Microsoft Office and Google products.

  • Work Management: Ability to think strategically and achieve organization’s goals relating to position. Effectively manages time as a resource and meets deadlines; establishes realistic priorities; schedules own time and activities effectively; gives balanced focus and attention to appropriate long- and short-term priorities. JOB REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree, or higher, in Education, Learning/Organizational Development, Training/Instructional Design, Communications, or related field required OR additional experience above the minimum may be considered in lieu of the required education on a year-for-year basis or related area preferred.

EXPERIENCE: 5-7 years of direct work experience managing staff, facilitating classroom and virtual training (train-the-trainer and end-user), as well as content creation and design. Sexual and/or reproductive health experience preferred.
