About Brother’s Keeper: Brother’s Keeper is a faith-based, education and enrichment program designed to be the next step for adults with intellectual disabilities after graduating from High School. Our goal is to empower these adults to reach their full potential through training, a variety of learning opportunities, and life-enriching experiences.

Job Summary: The Director of Development is a key leadership position within Brother’s Keeper, responsible for overseeing all aspects of donor relations, fundraising efforts, solicitations for the annual fund and capital gifts. This role plays a crucial part in driving the financial sustainability and growth of the organization. The Director of Development will work closely with the Executive Director, board members, and staff to secure the necessary financial resources to support the mission, programs, and initiatives for Brother’s Keeper.

Directly Responsible To: Executive Director and Board of Directors

Location: The position will be officed Johnson City, TN

Work Environment: This position may require occasional evening and weekend work, especially during fundraising events and campaigns.

Key Responsibilities:

Fundraising Strategy:

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive fundraising strategy that aligns with the organization's mission and strategic objectives.
  • Diversify the organization's funding streams to reduce reliance on a single source of income.
  • Identify potential funding sources, including individuals, foundations, corporations, and event-based giving.
  • Solicits a measurable number of major gifts annually—while growing a pipeline of new opportunities to support future major gift solicitations.
  • Lead efforts to grow the organization's annual giving program, including personal solicitations, direct mail, online giving and in-kind donations.

Annual Fundraising Campaigns:

  • Plan and manage annual fundraising campaigns, including direct mail, online giving, and special events.
  • Promote events and initiatives.
  • Monitor and report on campaign progress.
  • Recruit and manage volunteers and event committees to support fundraising efforts.

Capital and Major Gift Campaign:

  • Develop and implement a major campaign to address the cost of transitioning to a new facility as well as other future campaigns that are needed.
  • Identify and cultivate major donors capable of making significant contributions to the organization.
  • Build and maintain a portfolio of major donors.

Donor Cultivation and Relations:

  • Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with current and prospective individual donors, foundations, and corporate partners.
  • Cultivate and manage relationships with corporate partners and sponsors, identifying opportunities for collaboration and support.
  • Implement a donor stewardship program to recognize and engage supporters, ensuring ongoing engagement and retention.
  • Keep donors informed about the impact of their contributions through regular updates and reports.
  • Manages a portfolio of donors and prospective major donors by leading in cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship; maintains current documentation of activity.

Database Management:

  • Maintain and update donor databases to ensure accurate donor records and effective donor communications.
  • Generate reports and analytics to assess the effectiveness of fundraising efforts.

Grant Writing and Management:

  • Research and identify grant opportunities that match the organization's programs and initiatives.
  • Prepare and submit grant proposals, ensuring compliance with grant requirements.
  • Manage grant reporting and ensure all grant deliverables are met.

Compliance and Reporting:

  • Develop and manage the development department budget, tracking expenses and revenue to ensure fiscal responsibility.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant fundraising regulations and reporting requirements.
  • Track and report on fundraising progress, donor engagement, and other relevant metrics to the Executive Director, Board of Directors, and stakeholders.
  • Conducts and records outcome of measurable number of face-to-face visits with donor prospects to solicit major and planned gifts.
  • Delegates and oversees creation of donor-related materials including print and electronic appeals, stewardship communication, and meeting packets.

Qualifications:

  • A vibrant faith and growing relationship with Jesus Christ
  • Commitment to the mission and values of the organization.
  • Minimum of four years of proven fundraising experience.
  • Experience with developing and executing a capital campaign or major gift campaign.
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., nonprofit management, business, communications).
  • Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality of sensitive materials.
  • Strong initiative and self-motivation.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and relationship-building abilities.
  • Proficiency in fundraising software and donor management systems.
  • Strategic thinking and the ability to create and execute fundraising plans.
  • Excellent organizational and project management abilities.

Additional Desirable Qualifications:

  • Specific training in mid-level and/or major donor development.
  • Experience with grant writing, foundations, and corporate donors.
  • Certification, e.g., Certified Fund-Raising Executive (CFRE), Association of Health Care Philanthropy (AHP) or other.
  • Non-profit Christian ministry experience.
