Director of Contracts and Compliance - Attorney

VillageCare is seeking a motivated and experienced NYS attorney for our Director of Contracts and Compliance. This position will work at the direction of the General Counsel and will be responsible for providing legal advice and services to VillageCare and all its affiliated entities. Playing a vital role in the organization, this role will help advise senior management and the Board of Directors on a broad array of legal, regulatory, and Compliance matters.
Some responsibilities will include:
- Assist the General Counsel in performing general corporate legal work including review and revision of corporate charters and bylaws, contracts, board resolutions; personnel and labor relations issues; and real estate transactions and leases.
- Assist in managing, advising, and commencing litigation as needed, and conducting defenses accordingly.
- Provide sound legal advice on managed care and insurance matters, particularly as they apply to VillageCareMAX's Medicare and Medicaid governmental programs.
- Negotiate, oversee, and draft managed care contracts.
- Assist with and provide counsel to business leads on disputes, settlements, audits and investigations, appeals, fair hearings, administrative proceedings and small claims court actions; draft responses to audits and investigations; provide or arrange for representation at administrative hearings.
- Participate with and oversee outside counsel in representing VillageCare and VillageCare affiliated entities in structuring and negotiating corporate transactions such as mergers, acquisitions, affiliations, joint ventures, and the purchase of technology.
- Work closely with Chief Compliance Officer to investigate and resolve any compliance or risk concerns.
- In conjunction with the Chief Compliance Officer and Regulatory, ensure the Company conducts its business in compliance with various healthcare laws including those on privacy, Medicare, Medicaid and other governmental programs, FWA, STARK, HIPAA, Anti-Kickback statutes, etc.
- Provide guidance and stay informed regarding regulatory trends and best practices, and counsel business partners on measures to avoid, reduce and mitigate risks.
We would like to speak to those who have a JD from an accredited law school, with strong academic credentials. Admitted to practice law in New York required. At least 3 years of experience in the healthcare industry, practicing law in a health plan, healthcare system, or in the healthcare practice of a law firm. A combination of law firm and in-house experience is preferred. Experience with managed care and/or health care law; experience preferred with health plan-related legal and Compliance issues. Working knowledge of New York state government healthcare programs. In-depth understanding of Medicare and Medicaid products strongly preferred.
