Position Information

Position Title Director of College Life Campus Cranford Department College Life Full-time, Part-time, Adjunct Full Time Exempt or Non-Exempt Exempt Regular,Temporary, or Grant Regular General Description
The Director of College Life provides strategic and operational oversight of the Office of College Life. The Director oversees the development of programs and activities that encourage, support, and complement student learning and events that enrich Union College students' academic, social, cultural, intellectual growth, and leadership development. The Director is responsible for initiating, coordinating, executing, evaluating, and directing a full array of programs, services, and activities that engage all segments of the student body on each of the unique College campuses. The Director develops opportunities for student leadership and service learning, diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice training, which develop students' leadership skills and assist Union College student's holistic wellness, recreational and athletic needs.
The Director of College Life oversees the Student Leadership Council and clubs to encourage the development of student groups with extracurricular and co-curricular student engagement programs, i.e... student activities, student conferences and cultural events. The Director coordinates and implements activities in relation to student clubs, organizations, student related special events, programs, activities, and recognition events, i.e., Commencement, Awards Night and assists in developing programs to address student retention and completion goals. The Director also coordinates programs with the Diversity Inclusion Committee and works closely with College Relations on event planning and community engagement.

Characteristics, Duties, and Responsibilities
Provides strategic and operational oversight of the Office of College Life including creating, implementing, and evaluating the goals and objectives for the office.
Serves as direct supervisor for the Student Services Generalists and Associates in College Life and any Student Workers and/or outside vendors.
Develops and implements a comprehensive student development plan which positively impacts student persistence and engagement.
Responsible for and assists with the planning and implementing the Week of Welcome events, Involvement Fair, Awards Night, New Student Orientations, Destress Fest, Alternative Spring Break and Commencement in conjunction with the various departments and college-wide committees.
Responsible for the strategic and tactical planning efforts that result in College Life initiatives that support the College vision, mission, and strategic goals.
Manage and maintain the College Life departmental budget.
Leads and directs all aspects of campus-wide diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice educational programming that supports the intellectual, personal, and social development of all students.
Recruits, trains, and manages faculty, staff, and student volunteer members of the Owl Engagement Team ( OET); and work directly with the Team to establish thematic student activities programming that enhances the student experience on campus.
Responsible for the coordination of College-wide events across divisions.
Serves as lead advisor to the Student Leadership Council which includes managing their use of funds and resources and ensuring their role as the voice of the student body and their adherence to the mission and vision of Union College.
Responsible for planning and executing both the Student Leadership Council, clubs and Organizations, and Advisor retreats.
Initiates, implements, and coordinates activities, programs, and services that enhance student involvement, engagement, civic engagement and leadership development.
Responsible for the creation of an environment that promotes an integrated student experience through intentional collaboration with all Academic divisions, College Relations, Athletics, and other internal and external community departments and agencies.
Works with the Union College Foundation to engage students in the philanthropic process of the College and involve alumni.
Seeks, plans, coordinates, and facilitates external grant and special funding for student programming.
Responsible for the design, implementation, and execution of an on-going assessment plan to include learning outcomes for students; and implements improvements as appropriate.
Responsible for drafting and compiling departmental weekly and annual reports.
Develops policies and procedures to assist and guide students in creating new organizations, registering existing organizations, training officers, event planning, and advising the groups to ensure successful programming.
Reviews all student program contracts and maintain contact with essential vendors/agents; and provide supervision and presence at campus events, as well as traditional College events and activities.
Maintains the student organization portion of the website and serves as a resource person for all groups.
Responsible for developing a promotional plan for Office of College Life events and oversight of College wide bulletin boards.
Serves as the site administrator for the College wide student engagement online platform which includes training staff on usage of the platform.
Performs other duties as deemed necessary.
Education Requirements
Master's Degree is required.
Experience
Five years (5) years' experience in campus programming, student development, mentor, or supervisor of student clubs/organizations or equivalent.
Competencies and Skills Required
Event planning, interpersonal, organization and communication skills required.
Familiarity with current educational trends, politics of thought, protocols, and student programs; working knowledge of faculty involvement, student development, programmatic assessment, challenges, and opportunities associated with student engagement, retention and persistence.
Proficiency with MS office products including Excel and Access and web page development and maintenance.
Analytical and problem-solving skills.
Excellent customer service, oral and written communication skills, including ability to communicate effectively with a diverse external community and a diverse campus community.
Valid driver's license.
Must possess strong interpersonal skills to interact tactfully and courteously with students, the general public, faculty, and other staff members.
Must be a "quick study" in order to quickly grasp knowledge of policies and procedures relating to every aspect of student services that a prospective or current student may utilize.
Analytical and problem-solving skills.
Ability to take required initiative to solve problems.
Ability to collaborate with others.
Ability to prioritize multiple projects.
Ability to supervise and coordinate the operation of various activities.
Ability to effectively manage change.
Ability to develop, write, plan, and implement divisional goals and objectives.

Physical Demands and Work Environment
This position's duties are normally performed in a typical interior/residence work environment, based on the activity scheduled.
Some physical effort required; however, the employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
No or very limited exposure to physical risk.
Some travel required.
Salary $75,000 - $85,000 Additional Information

We offer a comprehensive benefits package for full-time faculty and staff which includes Medical, Dental and Vision Benefits. We also offer twenty vacation days, ten paid holidays, and a ten-week summer work schedule which allows the college to close on Fridays. Other additional benefits include gym privileges, tuition remission for credit and non-credit courses at Union College, and tuition reimbursement for an approved degree program at an accredited college or university.
Terms of Employment
Full Time. Flexible schedule to meet department needs. Frequent evening, weekends, and extended hours will be required. Ability and willingness to travel on short notice to all on and off- campus sites as needed by the college. Employee must establish primary residency in New Jersey within one year of appointment unless an exemption applies.
