The Dallas office of SmithGroup is looking for a Director of Branded Environments to join our team.

As the Director of Branded Environments, you will be responsible for leading the development and implementation of a growing Branded Environments service at SmithGroup. You will work between disciplines and geographies to build this service with existing and new clients with the goal of design excellence and profitability while simultaneously supporting and mentoring a growing team on day-to-day project initiatives.


Working with us, you will:

Design Excellence and Project Delivery

  • Manage large-scale projects, with the ability to multitask, prioritize, and manage timelines and budgets in a fast-paced environment.

  • Develop and maintain relationships with clients and stakeholders to ensure that their needs are met and that our design solutions exceed their expectations.

  • Direct, manage and prioritize work of internal Branded Environments creative team and external resources against agreed priorities.

  • Manage the design process from conception to completion, including overseeing the production of all design deliverables.

  • Possess code knowledge and ensure team has incorporated permitting requirements into the deliverables.

  • Maintain knowledge of design, brand and environmental graphics trends, construction methodology, materials application, and manufacturer-supplier costs.

Business Development and Marketing

  • Develop and implement Branded Environment strategies and processes that align with our firm's vision and goals.

  • Work closely with SmithGroup's various disciplines and markets to integrate environmental graphic design, wayfinding and branding into our existing and projected projects.

  • Be a prominent external face of SmithGroup. Regularly attend all design related activity within the market and establish a qualified network.

  • Develop a consistent set of marking materials and deliverable templates for Branded Environments at SmithGroup in partnership with Marketing and BD teams.

  • Prepare formal and informal proposals, define scope and estimate fees that are easy to understand and ensure profitability. Contribute to the sales process by leading client presentations.

Leadership

  • Build a team of experienced environmental and wayfinding designers that will lead to success in the competitive market.

  • Lead the staffing process; assist with seeking new talent and conduct interviews.

  • Manage and build a distributed, hybrid team and provide creative direction and guidance to ensure that all work is of the highest quality.

  • Manage expectations of project leaders, project managers, and teammates in order to cast a vision for success.

  • Arrange and coordinate mentorship and training responsibilities in alignment with our values and goals.

An ideal candidate has:

  • A Bachelor's or Master's degree in interior design, graphic design, architecture, or a related field.

  • At least 10 years of experience in environmental graphic design, wayfinding and signage with a focus on the architecture industry.

  • Experience in managing and building high performing teams.

  • A strong portfolio of work that demonstrates expertise in environmental graphic design, wayfinding, signage and branding.

  • A strong understanding of architectural construction documents, scales, sections, plans and elevations.

  • Experience planning, documenting and managing environmental graphic, wayfinding and signage projects in the context of the built environment.

  • Basic knowledge of sustainability, integrated design and LEED, WELL, EnergyStar guidelines

  • An understanding of SketchUp, Revit, CAD tools or other 3D modeling programs is a plus.

  • Hand sketching/drawing ability is a plus.
