ArtCenter College of Design is searching for an experienced Director, Foundation and Government Relations to join our team.
The salary range for this position: $90,000.00 - 100,000.00

Finalsalary is based on education, experience, skills relevant to therole, and internal equity.

Reporting to the Executive Director, Foundation and Government Relations, the Director, Foundation and Government Relations, performs three critically important roles: (1) frontline fundraising; (2) high-level grant management; and (3) prospect research for institutional giving. The incumbent will contribute to the success of campus-wide fundraising initiatives by maintaining a portfolio of active prospects and relationships; leading timely identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship efforts for institutional funders. The Director, Foundation and Government Relations is an integral, revenue-generating position within the Foundation and Government Relations (FGR) unit of the Office of Development at ArtCenter College of Design, one of the world's leading institutions of higher learning in creative disciplines. The FGR team pursues mission-driven grant funding from local, regional, and national foundations; public agencies; and nonprofit organizations for academic and non-academic programs across campus.

This is a full-time position. Normal business hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. or as defined by the department. The position is eligible for flexible scheduling and can be performed on-site, hybrid in-region or may be required as a condition of employment. The demands of this work may include weekends or evenings.

 

Essential Functions

Frontline Fundraising - 60%

  • Manage an assigned portfolio of 50-70 grant funders, serving as the primary relationship manager for each. Initially, the portfolio will skew toward funders with longstanding relationships with ArtCenter and whose procedures for renewals are already well-established
  • Serve as the primary author of or collaborate with programmatic staff on letters of inquiry and grant proposals
  • Collaborate with Executive Director on components of larger, more complex proposals
  • Engage funding prospects through written correspondence, phone calls, in-person meetings, events, and any other appropriate forms of communication
  • Initiate, organize, and host meetings with and site visits by assigned funders and prospects; and compose comprehensive briefing documents to prepare senior administrators, faculty members, or programmatic staff for these interactions
  • Continuously build and maintain positive relationships with internal constituents (especially members of ArtCenter's faculty and academic leadership) to facilitate collaboration on grants and funder reports, connect funding opportunities with of areas of need around campus, and to serve as an ambassador for the Office of Development

Donor Stewardship Functions - 25%

  • Take lead or collaborative role in developing and overseeing execution of grant or scholarship agreements
  • Collaborate with FGR unit's Grants Manager and other internal programmatic and administrative grant stakeholders to create and submit required reports (narrative or financial) and other materials to funders on a timely basis
  • Draft grant-related donor acknowledgments, incorporating knowledge about the relevant project and the relationship with each funder
  • Document key interactions with funders and prospects in timely, accurate, and thorough Raiser's Edge contact reports
  • Regularly monitor Raiser's Edge profiles for all assigned funders and prospects, ensuring that the information (e.g., contact persons, grant end dates, reporting deadlines, gift entries, proposal documentation, etc.) is kept current at all times
  • Maintain ArtCenter's registrations with assigned funders' and prospects' online grant interfaces, which may require regular renewals
  • Collaborate with ArtCenter's Marketing and Communications department to strategize publicity for grant-funded work

Prospect Research (Institutional) - 10%

  • Proactively and as assigned by the Executive Director, identify and vet potential funding opportunities using research tools such GuideStar, Grants.gov, Google, Candid, trade and other relevant publications, and funder websites to gain insights into funders
  • Collaborate with Office of Development's Associate Director, Prospect Management and Research to develop research summaries for institutional funders as requested by the Executive Director, Senior Vice President, or other Development colleagues

Non-Essential Duties - 5%

  • Assist with Development-related events during or (as needed) outside of regular work hours
  • Serve on educational or college-wide committees, work groups, task forces and/or councils
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in communications, English, Business, Marketing or related field from an accredited college or university
  • At least 5 years of experience with grant seeking with a proven track record of fundraising results, including grant budgetary experience
  • Experience with major comprehensive campaign fundraising
  • Familiarity with art and design-supporting foundations, corporate funding programs, and Governmental funders; including current solicitation and stewardship protocols
  • Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills; with exacting attention to detail and the ability to correspond clearly and concisely and relate to individuals at all levels of seniority and status
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure, adhering to strict proposal and reporting deadlines
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to encourage teamwork and diplomacy
  • Strong computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.); experience with databases
  • Experience working with online federal governmental grantseeking platforms; such as grants.gov, System for Award Management (SAM.gov), g5.ed.gov, etc.
  • Proficiency in prospect research and analysis
  • Strong familiarity with Raiser's Edge or similar CRM systems
  • Ability to handle all information with tact and discretion and recognizes the confidential nature of ArtCenter business
  • Demonstrated experience in cultivating the values of diversity, equity, inclusion, access and belonging into work practices and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships within ArtCenter's diverse communities
  • Ability to occasionally staff Development events on weekends or during evening hours, when necessary

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience fundraising in higher education, the arts, or both
  • Experience with Adobe suite
