Base Pay: $168,345.00 - $218,655.00 / yearJOB SUMMARY

The Dental Director will lead the dental department at Shasta Community Health Center in conjunction with the Dental Center Manager.  He/she will be an integral part of the SCHC management team and will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of dental operations, including clinical care, staff management, program development, and quality improvement initiatives. 

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Advises the CMO on issues relative to dental services including, but not limited to, patient services, staffing, utilization, quality assurance, productivity, and special clinic programs.
  • Provide clinical leadership and supervision to dental providers, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based care.
  • Monitor and evaluate clinical protocols and procedures to maintain compliance with industry standards and best practices.
  • Implement quality assurance measures to enhance patient safety and satisfaction.
  • Recruit, hire and evaluate dental staff, including dentists, hygienists, assistants, and administrative personnel in conjunction with the Dental Center Manager.
  • Develop and implement strategic initiatives to expand dental services and reach underserved populations within the community.
  • Work with the Director of Clinical Education-Dentistry to onboard and train new dentists and dental hygienists as well as oversee Dental students and/or Residents.
  • Collaborate with other healthcare providers and community organizations to integrate dental care with primary care and behavioral health services.
  • Stay abreast of emerging trends and innovations in dental care delivery and incorporate them into practice as appropriate.
  • In consultation with the CMO and QI department, establish quality metrics and benchmarks to monitor the effectiveness of dental services and identify areas for improvement.
  • Lead quality improvement projects aimed at enhancing patient outcomes, increasing access to care, and reducing disparities.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, including OSHA, HIPAA, and state dental board regulations.
  • Manage the dental department budget, including revenue generation, expense control, and financial reporting.
  • Develop effective clinician relationships in support of the Center’s mission, vision, values, and strategic plan.
  • Create an organizational climate that encourages teamwork.
  • Adhere to legal and regulatory standards.
  • Evaluate clinic workflow and activities to assure efficiency, patient, and staff satisfaction.
  • Inform the Chief Operations Officer about current trends, problems, and medical activities to facilitate planning, development, and policymaking.
  • Participate in continuing education and career planning.
  • Other projects as assigned.

  • Strong knowledge of electronic health record systems.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
  • Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) or Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) degree from an accredited institution.
  • Current state license to practice dentistry without restrictions.
  • Minimum of 5 years of clinical experience, with 2 years of progressive leadership experience in a healthcare setting.
  • Strong knowledge of dental practice management, including clinical operations, regulatory compliance, and financial management.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to effectively interact with patients, staff, and external stakeholders.
  • Commitment to cultural competence, diversity, and inclusion in healthcare delivery.
  • Demonstrated commitment to serving underserved populations and addressing health disparities.
