Description

Join Our Team as the Director of Economic Justice
Reporting to the Assistant Vice President of Programs, the Director is responsible for managing our holistic financial well-being and career and workforce programs that serve Marin County's low-income families and individuals. Our financial well-being programs include SparkPoint coaching, Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA), and financial literacy workshops. Our Workforce Development programs include local, county, and state-funded job training programs that offer high-touch career support and job placement. 

Primary Responsibilities
Program Management

  • Oversee the coordination and delivery of all Workforce Development and Financial Well-Being programs, contracts and grants, including data management, staff supervision, budget oversight, strategic partnerships, and reporting.
  • Lead the implementation of all projects with the aim of developing a continuum of asset building opportunities within Marin to move families toward financial stability and prosperity.
  • Lead development and application of program policies and procedures and continually assess and refine existing program infrastructure and standard operating procedures to optimize efficiency and outcomes.
  • Research and synthesize regulatory, demographic, statistical and financial data required for project planning.
  • Develop content for and oversee the delivery of community presentations on financial literacy, tax filing, and career and workforce development topics to diverse audiences.
  • Co-manage seasonal tax clinic with Director of Safety Net Services.
  • Co-author grant applications and lead the preparation of standard program design tools, including detailed implementation plans, logical frameworks, budgets, monitoring & evaluation plans, research learning agendas, and process flowcharts.

Personnel Management

  • Provide direct supervision, support, and professional development opportunities to service delivery team, including staff and volunteer coaches and workforce development team members.
  • Ensure appropriate staff participation in community engagement events and outreach activities (i.e., job fairs, campus events, pop-ups, etc.).
  • Create a staff-informed vision and efficient workflows for successful operations and program expansion.

External Partnerships & Committees

  • Host regular community partner and steering committee meetings, including preparing materials, confirming attendance, securing location, and recording and distributing meeting minutes.
  • Represent agency on boards and commissions related to racial and Economic Justice, financial security, and workforce development, such as Workforce Alliance of the North Bay Marin Advisory Subcommittee and Bay Area High Road Transition Collaborative.
  • Increase collaboration and cultivate partnerships among other CAM programs, local nonprofits, government agencies, and the business community to invest in Marin's families and provide opportunities to accumulate, leverage, and preserve assets.
  • Enhance systems to collect data from partner organizations to streamline intake processes and facilitate collective reporting on program outcomes.

Workforce Development

Collaborate with AVP, Programs to:

  • Scale and create new workforce development programming through concept creation, feasibility studies, labor market alignment, strategic partnerships, and community engagement.
  • Leverage agency assets (i.e., commercial kitchen, community garden, buses, etc.) to build sustainable career pipelines in the food industry, commercial driving industry, and other sectors.
  • Oversee Early Care & Education (ECE) apprenticeship program to strengthen our community's childcare system.

Organizational Leadership

  • Shape standards of excellence across all aspects of the agency's work; inspire all members of the agency's team to strive for standards of excellence; support and hold team members accountable in achieving them.
  • Model the agency's values in everything from the biggest organizational decisions to the smallest one-on-one conversations; inspire others to express these values and support and hold team members accountable in living them out.
  • Engage fully as a member of the Leadership Team, actively shaping and demonstrating full ownership for all organization-wide decisions and providing other members of the team with the feedback and guidance they need to be successful.
  • Fully represent the agency (brand, values, and vision) to relevant external stakeholders, including donors, funders, partners, community, and vendors.
  • Act as a convener, connector, and community builder with other core functions (e.g., HR and Development) to strengthen internal systems and processes that connect to finance and business operations or otherwise impact the operational backbone of the agency.
  • Proactively shape the culture by holding people accountable to agency's expectations against core competencies.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to break down silos and reach across organizational teams and functions in service to making the agency a more cohesive, engaged, and connected place to work, as well as a more efficient, effective, and creative organization. 
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience required.
  • 3+ years of nonprofit experience in a senior leadership role with full oversight over contracts and grants, budgets, data, community partnerships, and personnel.
  • Experience managing state and federally funded programs.
  • Strong analytical, time management and organizational skills and the capacity to integrate diverse objectives with a high level of attention to detail and deadlines.
  • Excellent listening, communication, public speaking, and facilitation skills.
  • Experience managing data, contracts, and grants independently.
  • Experience working with coalitions and diverse stakeholders.
  • Experience implementing workforce development programs.
  • Impeccable personal integrity and ability to maintain confidentiality of participant data.
  • Familiarity with asset building field and commitment to the organization's mission and goals.
  • Strong interest in working with individuals of low-income from diverse backgrounds.
  • Superior computer skills: Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and customer relationship management systems.
  • Experience strengthening cross-agency integration and external visibility.
  • Demonstrated ability to work as a member of a team as well as to take initiative and work independently.
  • Deep understanding - and ability to articulate - the role equity, inclusion, and diversity play in our work.
