Position Highlights
The NSF-ERC Center for Quantum Networks (CQN) is developing the entire technology stack to reliably carry quantum data worldwide. It is the expectation that the Center leads convergent research, education, and technology translation at U.S. universities that will lead to strong societal impacts, institutional change, and a diverse and inclusive workforce. CQN has foundational components that go beyond the research project, including engineering workforce development at all participant stages, a Culture ofDiversity and inclusion where all participants gain mutual benefit, and value creation within an innovation ecosystem that will outlast the lifetime of the ERC.
Reporting to the Director of CQN, the Diversity and Culture of Inclusion (DCI) Director will have responsibility, authority, and accountability to set the strategic direction and achieve diversity goals to cultivate a Culture of Inclusion that leads to institutional change throughout the nation-wide, multi-institutional center where UArizona is lead, including 4 colleges and University Research Innovation and Impact (RII). The Director of this foundational pillar will be a part of the leadership team and work collaboratively to incorporate diversity, equity, and inclusion best practices across all institutions, including their colleges and DEI offices, and provide strategic leadership of DCI programs for CQN.
The Director will support existing initiatives and design new innovative programming to strengthen CQN's practices while integrating inclusive excellence in policies to create innovative strategies supporting faculty, staff, and student engagement to increase diversity, create a Culture of Inclusion, and strengthen recruitment and retention strategies. The Director will develop and lead innovative research projects on DCI in the emerging Quantum Information Science (QIS) field.

Duties & Responsibilities
- Build strategy and lead operational direction of the DCI pillar to ensure the success of not only CQN's initiatives and programs in alignment with funder ERC-Gen 4 performance criteria but to create institutional change at the Center's partner institutions including 4 colleges at UArizona (Op Sci, Eng, Law, Eller) and have accountability to RII for program initiatives.
- Collaborate with external evaluator on benchmarking, design and implementation, and assessment reporting to optimize outcomes.
- Work collaboratively throughout the CQN to formulate the vision, goals, and objectives for achieving an outstanding personnel experience and community impact.
- Conduct and implement ongoing strategic and long-range planning efforts for recruitment and retention, designed for all CQN members at all levels, and DCI programming in alignment with the CQN's mission.
- Lead, develop, and implement complex projects and initiatives with representation across functions and locations.
- Serve as subject matter expert on equity, Culture of Inclusion, and engagement to determine and implement the best and most promising practices.
- Provide direction to CQN's students, faculty, and staff on complex DCI issues; identify issues that have significant organizational impact or future implications and advise staff and leadership accordingly.
- Build partnerships and transparency and invest in the development of strategic internal and external partnerships; collaborate to reach productive agreements and foster goodwill.
- Collaborate with internal and external DEI partners and stakeholders to operationalize strategic actions and priorities to ensure successful implementation, institutional change, and accountability of key DEI initiatives.
- Partner and collaborate with key constituencies across 4 colleges at UA, have accountability to UA RII and 10 partner campuses to design and institute DEI-related policies, protocols, strategies, and initiatives through coordinated and consistent engagement in order to create institutional change as directed by funder.
- Lead research efforts on effective DCI practices and initiatives in higher education and Quantum Information Science (QIS) to create an innovative research program for CQN Thrust 4 on equity, diversity, and inclusion efforts, not only within the context of the center, but societal impacts of the QIS emerging field.
- Lead business development funding efforts to advance DCI research for the Center, its partner institutions, and UArizona partner colleges including RII.
- Create and demonstrate metrics for quantifiable improvement of DCI efforts for the life of the center and sustainability efforts.
- Develop, analyze, and assess high level research data on campus DCI patterns, trends, and initiatives for grant funded programming.
- Expected growth of the program requires management of a team to further manage and build on DCI research program and implementation.
- Direct and manage 1-5 support staff in the communication and implementation of DCI program activities as the program grows with additional business development opportunities.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Educational Leadership, Education Policy, Human Resources, or related field; or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience required.
- Minimum of 7 years of related work experience developing training curriculum, delivering effective, interactive, high impact DCI training programs including 3 years of managerial experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
- Ability to drive according to the University Fleet Safety Policy.
Preferred Qualifications
- MS or other advanced degree in a STEM field or Education Instructional Design or related field; OR any equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Three years related work experience related to advancing diversity, equity, inclusion, belonging in an academic environment, highly preferred with specific experience in STEM research and/or curricular environments.
- Experience working with students, faculty, and campus leadership.
- Experience leading or designing intergroup dialogue.
- Demonstrated experience as a science education researcher with a demonstrated record of scholarly activity, peer-reviewed research, and grant writing.
- Proficiency and experience in assessment and data analysis software, such as SPSS, Stata, or qualitative software.
- Proficiency and experience in developing online survey tools.
- Experience managing virtual platforms such as Zoom, WebEx, Google Classroom, etc.
