Job description

Position Summary: Ithaca College seeks a Director of Clinical Education and Clinical Assistant Professor for its Physician Assistant Studies graduate (PASG) program to begin June 15, 2024. The PASG program is housed within the college's School of Health Sciences and Human Performance (HSHP), alongside five graduate programs in athletic training, exercise science, occupational therapy, physical therapy, and speech-language pathology in addition to undergraduate degree programs. The 27-month PASG residential program enrolls cohorts of 50 students. Coursework occurs on the Ithaca College South Hill campus and in a state-of-the-art facility with simulation clinical spaces located in downtown Ithaca. The program is currently provisionally accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA), and recently completed its three-year site visit.

The faculty member reports directly to the Program Director. Primary responsibilities include:

  • Build relationships to identify, establish, and maintain sufficient clinical rotation sites per ARC-PA standards.
  • Develop, maintain, and review all clinical sites and respective affiliation agreements alongside the Medical Director.

  • Provide each clinical preceptor orientation on instruction and assessment of the physician assistant learner.
  • Provide effective administrative leadership and guidance to faculty and staff members involved in the clinical phase, including supervising the Academic Coordinator - Clinical staff position.
  • Conduct clinical site visits to evaluate the site, learners, and preceptors.

  • Plan and implement all assessment and activities during the end of rotation days.
  • Work closely with the Director of Didactic Education in the oversight and implementation of the overall curricular design, in order to ascertain a seamless transition from the didactic phase into the clinical phase of the program.
  • Maintain syllabi, including instructional objectives, for all clinical rotations, and ensure that the program's clinical curriculum challenges learners while facilitating their professional development.
  • Ensure that clinical faculty and preceptors are oriented in learner assessment of learning outcomes and tracking achievement of clinical competencies to ensure learner clinical progress.
  • Conduct data collection and analysis for the clinical phase of the program.
  • Provide effective advising and mentoring for learners.
  • Participate in the admissions process, including the selection of incoming cohorts.
  • Provide course instruction according to the expertise of the candidate as needed by the program.
  • Perform regular duties of a faculty member as outlined in the Ithaca College Faculty Handbook, School of Health Sciences and Human Performance policies and procedures, and Physician Assistant Studies Program policies and procedures.
