Job description

What we're looking for: The Director of Business Intelligence (BI) is responsible for the development of business intelligence and analytics programs to support key RSNA business operations and strategy. This position leads a team in the design, development, and validation of dashboards and reports following industry and organizational best practices and using a variety of tools and data sources. This position is also responsible for leading a team who creates insights and understanding through the analysis of both quantitative and qualitative data gathered through survey and program evaluation activities. The Director of BI will develop a deep understanding and assume ownership and responsibility of RSNA’s data, forming connections, identifying trends, proactively suggesting research or additional data collection, and incorporating new data into the ecosystem. They will also provide insights, increasing the impact and value of report products.

The right candidate:

  • Is committed to maintaining an environment that enables the team to do great things with data, and to grow to their fullest potential.  Responsible for hiring, development, and evaluation of Business Intelligence department team members.
  • Leads the development of organizational dashboards and reports, including Board and other major Committee/Council reports, tracking various metrics and trends, providing insights. Collaborates with business users to develop insightful analyses for operational and planning needs.
  • Oversees survey research activities including needs assessments, surveys, and program evaluation projects. Manages development and presentation of reports involving quantitative and qualitative analysis of results.   
  • Provides assessment of customer behaviors and needs, identifies gaps, identifies benchmarks and metrics for evaluation, and interprets findings. Publishes reports and presents to staff and volunteers to enable data-driven decision making throughout the organization.
  • Develops a comprehensive understanding of all RSNA data and the relationships amongst the data to help break down silos between independent data sets and create a centralized data experience. Proactively identifies, analyzes, and interprets linkages and trends in all organizational data sets.  
  • Leads the organization’s data governance initiatives, driving enterprise-level data decisions.
  • Identifies data integrity issues, develops recommendations to resolve, and manages implementation of changes with the goal of improving the overall quality and usability of information across the organization.
  • Aligns BI strategy for data warehouse, data sets and sources with long-term business goals. Identifies gaps in data needs and formulates strategies for gathering and reporting new data sources.  
  • Oversees development of best practices, documentation, and data catalog implementation.
  • Partners with IT Engineering on the back-end data infrastructure.  
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

What you’ll need:

Leadership

  • Three to five years of experience of proven success leading a Business Intelligence department.
  • Strong sense of teamwork and continuous improvement.
  • Strong interpersonal & communication skills, including the ability to explain technical concepts to business leaders and business concepts to the development teams.

Technical

  • Three to five years of technical experience gained by designing, developing, and validating business intelligence products.
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Analytics, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, or equivalent educational experience.
  • Proven analytical skills with the ability to use data to back up assumptions and develop business insights. Ability to think conceptually, handle ambiguity, solve complex problems and make thoughtful recommendations.
  • Strong knowledge of industry best practices and standards to actively promote the effective and efficient use of enterprise data, Business Intelligence solutions, and development processes to meet management objectives.
  • Strong knowledge of data integration and warehouse architecture, relational and dimensional datasets, and ETL techniques needed to deliver BI solutions.
  • Experience with the BI product development process (requirement analysis, design, development and testing), preferably within the Agile framework. 
  • Experience using data and analytics tools/technologies such as Power BI, SQL, and Python.
