Pay Grade/Pay Range: Minimum: $93,900 - Midpoint: $126,800 (Salaried E14)

Department/Organization: 218142 - AL Disability Advocacy Prog (ADAP)

Normal Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00am to 4:45pm

Job Summary: The Director of Alabama Disability Advocacy Program (ADAP) provides leadership and management of Alabama's designated Protection and Advocacy agency for children and adults with disabilities. Ensures funding and programmatic guidelines for multiple federal funding sources are followed. Ensures federal mandates, University policies and procedures, and ADAP policies are followed. Manages ADAP Advisory Councils. Supervises staff. Provides program operation leadership. Plans for short-term and long-term goals.

Additional Department Summary: The Alabama Disabilities Advocacy Program (ADAP) is the statewide federally funded protection and advocacy (P&A) system for the state of Alabama. ADAP works to achieve fairness and justice for Alabamians with disabilities. ADAP is part of a nationwide network of P&A systems.
This position requires extensive in-state travel, some of which will be overnight. Use of personal car for business travel may be necessary at times
This position may be eligible for remote hybrid work.

Required Minimum Qualifications: Juris doctorate and six (6) years of leadership experience in an agency which provides advocacy services or other direct services to individuals with disabilities. Must be licensed to practice law in Alabama OR must become a member of the Alabama Bar within one (1) year of the date of hire.

Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Must have valid U.S. driver's license. Must be at least 19 years of age at time of hire and have an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report that is in compliance with University policies. Must be admitted to practice before all federal courts whose jurisdictions encompass Alabama OR eligible for admission within one (1) year of the date of hire.
Must receive a favorable suitability clearance from the Social Security Administration.

Skills and Knowledge: Knowledge of disability law and regulations, history and issues, and measures of service quality for persons with various disabilities. Sound management and professional judgment skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Grant writing and financial management skills. Excellent organizational skills. Ability to work with community groups.

Preferred Qualifications: Seven (7) years practicing law with a specialty in civil rights law, disability law, or other relevant area and six (6) years of supervisory or management experience. Trial and appellate litigation experience in state and federal courts, including complex litigation actions, with a strong interest and experience in civil rights.
