Position Overview: The Director, Advance Semiconductor will lead the team responsible for creating and managing the external supplier partnerships that help deliver strategic technology direction for Digi-Key. A critical portion of this role is the development of strategies that increase market share, and sales productivity while driving incremental profit. The Director is accountable for the business & financial success of the business unit supplier portfolio; ensuring new supplier partnerships are created as well as overseeing the management of quality, and existing supplier relationships. The Director ensures the interfaces to internal & external teams|partners are set up for success and deliverables, internal and external, are tracked and achieved.
This role has direct leadership & management of the Business Development, Asset, Procurement, and Product Management teams associated with the assigned technology. They are responsible for supporting and developing their direct reports and an environment that encourages continuous improvement in results and leadership of others.
This is not exclusively an essential onsite role, though required to be onsite in Thief River Falls regularly and must be based in Minnesota.
Responsibilities:
- Develop the technology segment portfolio strategy to continuously outperform the market; overseeing the execution of the strategy across a multi-disciplinary cross-functional team
- Develop a high-performing, diverse team that effectively collaborates with other teams in Digi-Key as well as external partners in support of Digi-Key's values; lead and manage a group of Business Development and Product Managers, each their own technology development manager within the portfolio and the Procurement team who delivers on the inventory expectations
- Align external customer & supplier goals with internal business expectations for successful delivery of business and financial goals
- Lead supplier negotiation strategies, process support strategy execution across regions including project prioritization securing of resources, governance and controls.
- Set aggressive goals and drives KPIs in accordance with Digi-Key's inventory & warehousing vision as well as various project and program targets.
- Identify and manage connectivity, engagement and collaboration of internal Digi-Key teams and supplier relationships
- Manage delivery of cost, quality, availability and technology goals as well as any other deliverables
- Own the supplier performance management of the respective commodities, which includes key delivery, quality, cost, and innovation metrics.
- Identify and leverage opportunities for continuous improvement
- Continually assess market conditions and develop strategies that maximize value to Digi-Key; strong awareness of market trends/conditions and the competitive landscape that affect suppliers, costs, pricing, and the resulting impact to customers
- Build trusted relationships with executives and other stakeholders, internally and externally, to discuss strategy and ensure alignment; interact and communicate effectively and efficiently across all levels of an organization
Performs other duties as assigned including but not limited to possible reallocation of efforts to other organizations per business need and management request.
Other tasks may include :
- Take on additional responsibilities from Supplier Business Development leadership
- Be an active member of cross-functional working teams or tasks forces
- Participate in and may be asked to lead organizational change initiatives (e.g. process, technology, etc)
- Travel (internationally and|or domestically) up to 25% as dictated by business need
Required Skills, Knowledge, and experience
- Bachelor's degree in business or engineering (BSME, BSEE) or other related technical degree
- Typically, 15+ years of experience in sales, engineering, manufacturing, and/or supply chain
- 10+ years of experience in assigned technology category
- 5+ years managing teams with a focus on mentoring, coaching and performance management
- Deep knowledge of Digi-Key, and/or the electronic component distribution industry
- Exceptional analytical, negotiation, and verbal|written communication skills are required.
- Demonstrated ability to work with cross-functional teams at all levels from individual contributors to executives
- Superior influencing and leadership skills. Demonstrated ability to influence change based on collaboration
- Demonstrated ability to drive change within organizations
- Strong business management and acumen skills. Must demonstrate proficiency with business cases, contracts and negotiation, etc.
- Demonstrated success working in a global, matrixed-environment with ability to influence without direct authority
- Well-versed in Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) analysis to ensure data-driven analytics tied to component and supplier selection, in a product-based ecosystem
- Position requires significant travel. Must have the ability to obtain a valid passport and travel internationally as required

- MBA or advanced technical degree strongly preferred
