Description:

JOB DESCRIPTION:

  • Directs the Access, Disabilities and Resource policies related to section 504, Rehab Act, 1972 and ADAA 2008 and Emory's legal obligation to federal statutes and regulations for the purpose of a barrier-free environment, access and equal opportunities.
  • Directs the University’s compliance initiatives as it pertains to the ADA and other disability related laws and legislation. 
  • Designs, publicizes, and conducts educational programs and trainings to increase campus-wide knowledge and understanding of ADA policy, issues, and compliance responsibilities among employees, contractors, vendors, and community members.
  • Coordinates ADA related activities with university offices. 
  • Prepares reports related to ADA issues.  Implements a strategic plan and vision related to a barrier free workplace at an educational institution. Establishes functional objectives in line with the goals of the Office of Institutional Equity and Compliance. 
  • Establishes ADA compliance operational strategies by evaluating trends; establishes critical measurements, determines production, productivity, quality and customer service strategies; designs systematic processes; resolves problems; implements change. 
  • Avoids legal challenges by understanding current and proposed legislation; enforces regulations; recommends new procedures; complies with legal requirements.
  • Participates on committees as the subject matter expert on accommodations, facility design, adaptive equipment, assistive technology, and accessibility. 
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, maintaining professional networks, and participating in professional organizations.
  • Enhances compliance and organization reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; explores opportunities to add value to our customer service and unit goals.
  • Performs related responsibilities as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A bachelor's degree in human resources, education administration or related field and Seven years of ADA or related experience in coordinating and implementing ADA compliance and accommodations programs, preferably in a university setting.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A master's degree in human resources, education administration or related field and five years of equal opportunity, affirmative action, ADA, or related experience, preferably in a university setting.
  • Current Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC) licensure. Knowledge of federal and state EEO regulations, affirmative action, ADA, mediation, and conflict resolution.
  • Legal knowledge of federal compliance regulations preferred.
