DIRECTOR - ACADEMIC PROJECTS
MALCOLM X COLLEGE
Reporting to the Vice President - Academic & Student Affairs, the Director - Academic Projects provides leadership and administrative oversight in the management of a college's Academic Projects. Working collaboratively with the Provost's Office, the Director-Academic Projects implements, and facilitates academic and faculty-focused policies and procedures to ensure that appropriate controls and uniform standards are in place to provide consistency in the college and district level review and approval of faculty personnel actions and other faculty-facing academic matters. Performs related duties as required.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
  • Provides administrative oversight of college's academic workflow and processes to ensure faculty personnel actions and faculty-facing academic matters are in compliance with CCC's Academic & Student Policy rules and policies.
  • Reviews and verifies the completeness and accuracy of submitted documentation requesting approval of faculty personnel actions including lane advancements, sabbaticals, promotions in rank, and other faculty transactions.
  • Works with college administrators in reviewing faculty course loads and ensuring course overload requests adhere to and comply with contractual requirements and collective bargaining agreements.
  • Coordinates the execution of College-wide projects undertaken by the VP-Academic & Student Affairs, as well as organizes and prioritizes critical issues and required information for the executive to facilitate efficient decision making.
  • Monitors progress/achievement of next steps.
  • Assists colleges in cultivating an academic culture of ethical behavior, positivity, professionalism, satisfaction, and productivity.
  • Advises and guides college administrators on processes governing faculty and academic affairs as stipulated in CCC's Academic & Student Policy manual.
  • Provides guidance in the interpretation and application of collective bargaining agreements representing full-time and part-time faculty and professional employees in academic areas.
  • Responds to complaints and investigates employee/labor relations issues impacting faculty and academic processes.
  • Liaises with union representatives to resolve issues.
  • Leads college's participation in the on-going review of the Academic and Student Policy Manual, with a focus on researching emerging issues and revising and creating new policies and processes relating to faculty affairs and academic matters.
  • Works collaboratively with academic stakeholders in the review of faculty credential guidelines and minimum requirements to teach an academic discipline to ensure Higher Learning Commission (HLC) standards are maintained.
  • Participates in preparing college administrators for HLC accreditation site visits.
  • Conducts mock interviews with faculty and staff, and audits faculty files for adherence to CCC's credential policies and procedures.
  • Utilizes technology resources and databases to help streamline the management and operations of various academic processes and procedures.
  • May serve as a representative at hearings, grievances, and meetings regarding labor relations matters as related to academic policies or procedures.
  • May attend negotiations and research issues related to collective bargaining.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • A Master's degree from a regionally accredited college or university.
  • Three years of programmatic or administrative experience within a higher education administrative setting.
  • Knowledge and/or work experience relating to higher education accreditation processes and procedures desirable .
  • Experience working within a collective bargaining environment desirable
  • Familiarity with relational databases and student information systems.
  • Demonstrated understanding of academic & student policy and compliance issuesthat affect faculty personnel and the delivery of quality educational services.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; effective interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work within a culturally diverse environment
  • Ability to exercise tact and diplomacy in handling sensitive situations.
  • Proficient in the useof Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
