Direct Support Professionals work with adults diagnosed with intellectual disabilities, physical disabilities, and mental health diagnosis.Responsibilities include but are not limited to assisting and monitoring. DSP's are directly responsible for daily care and adhering to goals as out lined in the ISP. DSP's will be expected to work at multiple sites as needed to meet staffing needs for each site. In the event of unforeseeable emergencies, DSP's may be required to stay until relief staff can arrive, and to step-in, via on call to ensure staff to residential ratio is in compliance with regulatory guidelines.
Job Functions and Responsibilities: including but not limited to the following:
- Communicate effectively, oral and written documentation
- Ability to perform basic computer functions
- Use verbal de-escalation skills
- Preform basic housekeeping responsibilities
- Interact professionally with residents, team members, co-workers, and the public
- Conveys a genuine interest and concern for the residents in their care
- Develop rapport, listens, and engages the residents in daily interactions
- Role model pro-social behaviors
- Participates with residents in recreational and other daily activities
- Plan, implement and evaluate all aspects of daily living routines and activities, including structuring the environment
- Assist with scheduling all medical appoints, attend and assist with scheduling all ISP appointments and all appointments regarding the care of the residents
- Respond to, and render care regarding emergencies to and communicate routine and emergency health care issues to necessary team members
- Transportation to and from all activities and appointments
- provides direct supervision of residents as required by ISPs, programs and/or regulatory requirements
- participate and collaborate with team members in goal development
- implement treatment interventions as it relates to a child’s individual service plan
- provide ongoing advocacy and support
- participate in ongoing professional development in-service trainings
- participate in supervision as determined by the supervisor
- complete the minimum (50) number of annual professional development training hours in accordance with regulatory guidelines
Additional DSP responsibilities
- Reviewing documentation for accuracy and reporting needs and changes to the supervisor
- Attend ISP meeting and engage in plan development that improves the quality of life of the individuals serviced
- Scheduled on call responsibilities to ensure staff to resident meets regulations
- Support RSS by role modeling positive pro-social behaviors
- Assume administrative duties as assigned by the supervisor or administrative staff
Essential Qualifications
- Education/Experience: prefer Associate degree in field of relevant education OR High School diploma and at least TWO full years (time must be concurrent with no gaps in employment) of relevant work experience required.
- Valid and current driver’s license and personal auto insurance AND must be insurable by A Helping Home (inability to be insurable by A Helping Home will disqualify employability).
- Clearances : State Police/FBI per state regulations; Act 33/34, clear criminal history, pass urinalysis
- Physical ability : must be able to go up and down steps, lift and carry at least 25 lbs., stand, sit, for extended time, stay awake during overnight hours, drive in acclimate weather, drive a van.
