Job Description for Direct Care Worker
Per Licensing Rule MCHHS “Direct Care Worker” means a person who provides Direct Care and supervision of children in an institution.
The Direct Care Workers will provide direct assistance with personal care or activities of daily living or has access to provide care to clients, patients, or residents
Duties and Responsibilities (these duties are a general summary and not all inclusive):
- Serve as a role model to youth in residence by modeling responsible behaviors as required
- Provide guidance in daily living skills, including household chores to youth
- Monitor activities of youth to ensure their safety and wellbeing
- Report non-compliance with home rules to the Direct Care Worker Supervisor
- Maintain communication with youth to ensure adjustment to program expectations
- Facilitate and /or participate in "house meetings" to review house rules, plan activities or discuss other needs of house/group
- Participate in treatment planning meeting with each youth as needed or requested
- Maintain adequate awareness of youth's activities to ensure the safety of the youth, other residents, HOL staff and the house are maintained
- Report safety hazards and needed repairs within home and grounds to designated Direct Care Worker Supervisor
- Maintain client confidentiality and records and individuals' human rights by complying with applicable laws and regulations.
- Attend bi-weekly staff meetings and in-service trainings
Training:
- Maintain renewals yearly or as specified
- Undergo background checks through Michigan State Police (if necessary) to ensure safety of all residents receiving personal care.
Education and Experience:
- Completed high school or obtained a general equivalency diploma (GED)
- Degree in social work preferred, or relevant experience in the field of social work
- Knowledge of computers (Microsoft Excel/Word/Outlook)
- Experience with behavioral management

Physical and Mental Requirements: Must possess hearing acuity to converse in person and on the telephone. Visual acuity to read and proofread documents. Ability to drive an automobile with a valid Michigan Driver's License and a good driving record. Some walking, standing and physical assistance, possibly some lifting may be required. Mental capability to analyze complex interpersonal situations and personalities.
