K-Connections EPS will create a culture of success by hiring and employing qualified Direct Care Staff. Direct Care Staff will provide a vital support role in Direct Care such as: general supervision of children, necessary daily living supports, guidance on independent living skills, role model positive behaviors, and support coordination and delivery of program expectations. Direct Care Staff will ensure the health, safety, and well-being of children and youth in care.
Direct Care Staff must maintain the following current or in good standing:
- 16-hour pre-service training, and ongoing training relevant to child behavior and or as it pertains to services provided to children in residential care.
- All training certifications, including First Aid / CPR/AIDS/HIV and BBP as well as Right Response Training.
- Provide and pass a TB test.
- Maintain DCYF criminal background clearance and pass Famlink check.
- Maintain expected staffing ratio to children.
Minimum Criteria:
(1) Direct Care Staff must:
(a) Be at least 21 years of age, except as provided for in subsection (2) of this section;
(b) Have a high school diploma or equivalent credential, for example, a GED or HSEC;
(c) Have the skills and ability to assist with the needs of children and youth in care;
(d) Meet at least one of the following criteria:
(i) Have at least six months of similar, full-time experience working directly with vulnerable populations; or
(ii) Be attending classes at an accredited college or university related to caring for vulnerable populations; and
(e) If applicable, meet additional duties and qualifications detailed in:
(i) Any professional accreditation requirements that apply to the agency
(2) Direct Care Staff may be between 18 and 21 years of age if the Direct Care Staff meet the requirements detailed in subsection (1)(b) through (e) of this section, and work:
(a) At a facility licensed only to provide care for children younger than 13 years of age; or
(b) At a facility licensed to provide care for children 13 years of age and older if the Direct Care Staff person works at all times with at least one other staff person who:
(i) Is at least 21 years old;
(ii) Is on-site and readily available to help when needed; and
(iii) Has at least one year of similar, full-time experience working directly with vulnerable populations.
Job expectations:
- Have the skills or ability to learn, and the desire to work successfully with children who may exhibit challenging and at times aggressive behaviors.
- Gain the skillset through appropriate trainings to de-escalate children with explosive behaviors.
- Maintain strong professional boundaries.
- Be an effective communicator, and communicate with team members, shift supervisors and or Program Manager.
- All Direct Care Staff must be task oriented, demonstrate good role model behavior, decision making ability in accordance with WAC 110-145 and Policy and Procedure.
- Provide direct supervision of children during shift hours in accordance with supervision plan needs.
- Guide and or supervise children in care with daily functions, such as: meal prepping/cooking, laundry, personal hygiene, educational goals, and independent living skills.
- Document and comply with all reporting duties. Make reports to all appropriate parties and supervisors.
- Comply with all safety drills, training, medical training as it relates to health, safety and well-being of children in care.
- Be culturally responsive to a child’s need.
- Embrace diversity of age, gender, religion, and culture.
- Be familiar with or learn community resources that can assist with the child’s service needs.
- Direct Care Staff must maintain an assigned ratio of staff to children.
- Shift hours may vary from 8 hours to 12 hours, depending on scheduling needs.
- Expected work hours: 40 hours with occasional opportunity for overtime.
