The mission of American Public Media Group (APMG) and Minnesota Public Radio (MPR) is creating the future of public media by amplifying voices to inform, include, and inspire. APMG's primary operating divisions Minnesota Public Radio, Southern California Public Radio, and American Public Media offer multi-regional FM broadcast channels, website, mobile and social media channels, live events, national content creation and distribution. Together, these divisions operate 48 public radio stations and 42 translators serving regional audiences in seven states from Minnesota, Michigan, and the Upper Midwest to California; distribute a portfolio of more than twenty national programs reaching 28MM listeners weekly through broadcast and digital programming; serve rapidly growing audiences on digital, social and mobile platforms; and produce an increasing and diverse array of podcasts featuring the best in food, culture, entertainment, mental health, water, early brain development, business, and investigative journalism.

In short, we're on a path to be relevant to more Minnesotans, whether they live in North Minneapolis or on the North Shore, on the Red Lake Reservation or on Lake Minnetonka. You can see this work on an ongoing basis in our programming. MPR provides three regional services including MPR News, YourClassical MPR and The Current.
The Director, Regional Network Stations is responsible for leading Greater MN Network Stations in advancing the mission, vision, values, strategies, and goals of MPR. The Director is accountable to ensure the administration of all policies of American Public Media Group (APMG), Minnesota Public Radio (MPR), the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) and the Federal Communications Commission (FCC).
This leader monitors staffed and un-staffed Regional Network Stations; supervises Regional Network Managers and the Regional Office Coordinator; manages income and expense budgets. This role and team organize grassroots advocacy, oversee the Regional Development Advisory Councils, nurture relationships with Educational Sponsors, manage strategic audience engagement activities and key constituent and partner relationships in Greater MN and bordering states. The leader advocates for Greater MN audiences while balancing the needs of Network Stations with the strategic interests of the company.
This role will be based in one of MPR's network station facilities and travel approximately 15%.
Expected Compensation Range: $95,655 - $110,000/yr. Exact salary determined by experience and education related to the role, organizational compensation structure and internal equity.

Your Role:
  • Oversee network station facilities in Bemidji, Duluth, Moorhead, Rochester, St Cloud, Worthington, Houghton, MI, and Sioux Falls, SD.
  • Hire, supervise, train and manage direct staff enhance skills and foster growth.
  • Provides healthy, safe, and creative working environment for all network station staff.
  • Manages the network station budget with full responsibility for meeting revenue and expense goals. Approves and tracks purchases for Network Stations.
  • Monitor network station sound and provide feedback on program flow, local breaks, and levels. On call 24/7.
  • Coordinates activities related to station building/expansion projects and remodeling of technical facilities.
  • Leads legislative grass roots lobbying and public affairs efforts in Greater MN. Meets with key elected officials and business and community leaders throughout the region.
  • Oversees region wide educational sponsor relationships and revenue contracts.
  • Oversees region wide Regional Development and Advisory Council activities.
  • Develops and implements outreach activities to Greater MN audiences through strategic marketing/advertising, partnership activities, and station trades to extend our brand, build diverse audiences and connections, and loyalty.
  • Strategically represents MPR to the public, including with MPR members and select donors.
  • Provides support for live broadcasts and local recordings. Provides support and coordination of region-wide content projects.
  • Strategically manages and executes event partnerships and MPR-owned events in Greater MN. Work collaboratively with colleagues across the organization.
  • Advocates for Greater MN audiences.

Required Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience
  • 5+ years' experience in management
  • Experience in community relationship building and creating and managing new partnerships.
