TITLE: DIGITAL DATA SCIENTIST

PAY RANGE: $97,600.00 - $110,000.00 ANNUALLY

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The Data Scientist-Digital is a driven, self-motivated expert in data discovery, preparation, insight extraction and storytelling to gauge the effectiveness of the credit union's digital efforts and to inform the roadmap. The Data Scientist translates complex data sets from diverse range of sources into business insight to support the channel management's decisions with the objective to drive digital sales, digital self-service adoption, positively impact the credit union's bottom line and member channel experience and satisfaction. Prepares large, diverse datasets, modeling complex problems, discovering insights, and identifying opportunities through the use of statistical, algorithmic, mining and visualization techniques. Presents the extracted insight to the channel management and other stakeholders, while exposing the assumptions and validation work through data storytelling, effective communication of data analysis, visualization, and narrative. Develops and maintains reporting tools, such as custom reports and dashboards targeting various audiences, for stakeholders from peers to upper management. Actively participates in the UX (user experience) research initiatives, such as usability studies, consumer persona research, etc.

To be successful in this role, the incumbent will need to have a sound understanding of the data science and analysis frameworks and toolkits and trends, as well the ability to closely collaborate with various partners and stakeholders across the enterprise to develop a thorough understanding of the Credit Union's digital business plans, products, and processes. Prompt identification, research, and analysis of opportunities will be necessary to develop innovative solutions and resolutions.

TASKS, DUTIES, FUNCTIONS:

1. Designs experiments, tests hypotheses, builds models, conducts data analysis and moderately complex algorithm design.
2. Seeks, collects, cleans, organizes, mines, analyzes, models, visualizes, and communicates data findings and insights as part of the experimental data science process. Actively manages the relevant vendor relationships to find and utilize appropriate data sources.
3. Works to identify opportunities; defines and proposes code/programming or modeling solutions within Digital Services as well as other lines of business, as needed.
4. Creates and gives presentations to clearly and concisely communicate recommendations and insights from modeling and measurement for various audiences.
5. Actively participates in usability studies and consumer persona research; uses data to provide visuals and narratives that tell stories about member journeys.
6. Acts as a champion for the digital voice of the member across the organization, advocating for digital experiences that are aligned with member needs and preferences based on sound data.
7. Develops and maintains reporting tools, such as custom reports and dashboards for a variety of internal audiences including peers and upper management.
8. Implements a framework and guiding principles for collecting, analyzing, and reporting insights and product usage, develop a reporting cadence.
9. Quickly understands new concepts all the way down to the theorems to come up with original solutions.
10. Maintains a thorough understanding of state and federal laws and regulations related to credit union compliance including bank secrecy and anti-money laundering laws appropriate to the position.
11. Documents data science projects for training, auditing, and duplication purposes.
12. Stays up to date on industry and data science technologies, techniques, methods, and best practices.
13. Always maintains clear communication with the organization to ensure data needs are understood and met.
14. Other duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND EXERTION UTILIZED IN THE PERFORMANCE OF THESE TASKS:

1. Strong oral and written communication and interpersonal skills
2. Must possess sufficient manual dexterity to skillfully operate standard office equipment such as a personal computer, VOIP telephone, printers, scanners, etc.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree in mathematics, statistics, computer science or related field. Graduate degree in Data Science or related field is strongly preferred.
2. EXPERIENCE: 3-5 years
1. Experience with both qualitative and quantitative research methods.
2. Manipulating large datasets and using databases.
3. Analyzing data for storytelling and visualization
4. Using general-purpose programming language such as (Python) and a statistical computing language: tidyverse (dplyr, ggplot2, ...), caret, NLP, shiny
5. Intermediate to expert level of programming and statistical modeling skills (Python, R, SQL, SAS, etc.)
6. Financial Industry experience preferred
3. KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:

1. Able to form insightful observations from primary and secondary data.
2. Familiarity with basic principles of distributed computing and/or distributed databases.
3. The ability to work with a diverse group of stakeholders, communicate and present information thoroughly and thoughtfully to educate and support informative decisions.

Physical requirements:

1. Prolong setting throughout the workday with occasional mobility required.
2. Corrected vision within the normal range.
3. Hearing within normal range. A device too enhance hearing will be provided if needed.
4. Occasional movements throughout the department daily to interact with staff, accomplish task, etc.
