Digital Marketing & Fundraising Manager
Canal Alliance seeks an experienced fundraising and Digital Marketing professional to support the ongoing design and implementation of the agency's Digital Marketing and fundraising strategies. This role will provide support to the Director of Marketing & Communications and Individual Giving Manager and is a member of a 13-person Advancement Department, responsible for raising $12M + annually. Of that, the Digital Marketing & Fundraising Manager will be responsible for raising ~$170K each year through digital channels, including year-end email campaigns, Giving Tuesday, and other digital fundraising initiatives. We seek to grow this revenue stream by 10% in the 2024 calendar year. This is a full-time, exempt position with full benefits.
Responsibilities
The Digital Marketing & Fundraising Manager collaborates extensively with members of the Development department and works under the supervision of the Director of Marketing & Communications, who, in addition to supervising digital communications and fundraising, supports direct mail fundraising, community outreach, volunteer engagement, print communications, and PR. The Digital Marketing & Fundraising Manager will design and implement the agency's digital fundraising goals, strategies, analysis, and reporting. Collaborating with staff members across the agency, this person will gather story ideas and impact data for use in developing content for external audiences. Primary responsibilities for this role include design, creation, dissemination, upkeep, and evaluation of the agency's digital fundraising efforts and digital communications, including website, e-newsletters, social media, and email communications. The position will also lead SEO and analytics work, evaluating traffic, conversion, and engagement across audiences and platforms. Additionally, this role provides support for agency events including event communications, registration, and outreach materials.
External Communications & Digital Fundraising-70%

  • Plan annual email and social media calendars, serving as a primary content writer and editor blog posts, newsletter articles, fundraising emails and campaigns, web page content, and social media.
  • Oversee upkeep and content creation in English and Spanish for all external-facing Canal Alliance digital platforms, including Wordpress website, Classy pages, and social media accounts (Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube).
  • Manage all aspects of the organization's email newsletter.
  • Maintain the agency's Editorial Calendar.
  • Support agency's communications needs to for events, including event-related promotional communications, registration pages, and follow-up messaging.
  • Serve as in-house photographer. Capture, edit, upload, and publish photos and/or videos of Canal Alliance's programs, activities, and events to support digital campaigns, messaging, and storytelling.
  • Manage upkeep of review websites for the agency, including Yelp, Guidestar, Charity Navigator, and others.
  • In coordination with the Individual Giving Manager, lead the digital arm of multi-channel fundraising appeals by creating digital campaign elements in Classy, developing and adapting appeal content for email appeals (Mailchimp/Account Engagements), and promoting appeals on social media channels.
  • Lead digital lead gen initiatives, designing strategies and gated assets to support advertising efforts to grow the Canal Alliance subscriber and follower audiences. Work to leverage all earned media across website and social in support of audience growth.
  • Lead all social media strategy and content development, crafting an annual program that fosters growth and engagement, and brings audiences along in their engagement with the organization, moving them from leads to followers to subscribers to donors.
  • Oversee ongoing maintenance, upkeep and improvement of Canal Alliance website, working with program teams to keep content current, and with the Director of Marketing & Communications to ensure SEO is optimized and the team is consistently creating content that takes best advantage of organic search insights and traffic trends.
  • Support creation of print materials as needed by the Director of Marketing & Communications, the Engagement & Stewardship Manager, and program staff as needed. This includes brochures, flyers, tabling materials, and more.

Data Analysis, Strategy, & Reporting-20%
  • Monitor data analytics for all digital functions of the agency, leveraging information for data-informed decision-making. This includes ownership of website SEO, Google Analytics, Google Ads, Classy donation tracking, and evaluation of efficacy of all digital fundraising initiatives, via email, social media, or both.
  • Provide reporting on digital fundraising appeals, working with Individual Giving Manager to adjust strategies to improve efficacy.
  • Contribute content to the Marketing and Communications monthly report detailing key projects, accomplishments, challenges and metrics.

Agency-Wide Communications-10%
  • Launch and oversee an internal Canal Alliance newsletter, working with program staff and leadership teams to foster inclusivity and ensure all employees are informed about agency initiatives.
  • Follow up with story ideas provided by staff members to write, edit, and publish stories in the form of blog posts, articles, and infographics.
  • Provide design support to staff members as needed to support their use of templates to create program communications materials, including flyers, handouts, etc.
  • Maintain an organized photo and video files in a cloud-based site for ongoing use, including tagged imagery and photo releases.
  • Actively participate in and attend all Development team meetings and All Staff meetings.
  • Regularly book photographers for agency events.
  • Provide design and writing support to the Director of Marketing & Communications, the Individual Giving Manager, the Engagement & Stewardship Manager, and others as necessary.

Requirements
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Qualities Required
  • Experience building and growing digital fundraising programs, including audience growth for email lists, social media followers, and the development of robust digital fundraising initiatives.
  • Experiencing with marketing analytics, data analysis, and digital communications program development.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills.
  • Exceptional communication skills; ability to engage individuals and groups.
  • Excellent analytical and abstract reasoning skills, with the ability to think strategically, problem solve creatively, and exercise good judgment.
  • Proven ability to work within dynamic teams and build strong working relationships with colleagues, donors, businesses, volunteers and clients.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision, handle multiple tasks, and manage demanding situations effectively, while showing initiative and being anticipatory rather than reactive.
  • Effective time management and work organization skills, with a high attention to detail.
  • Bilingual/biliterate (English/Spanish) is required

Education and Experience Required
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field.
  • Minimum of three years of experience in a related position.
  • Knowledge of Latino, immigrant, or low-income communities.
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of digital fundraising.
  • Technology and data analysis experience including strong working knowledge of: GA4, SEO, Wordpress, Mailchimp or Account Engagements, Salesforce, social media platforms, Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office, and project management software
  • Professional or semi-professional photography

Additionally Desired
  • Experience promoting and administrating events on digital platforms, including building registration pages and creating/sending promotional and follow up communications.
  • Experience with fundraising in a non-profit organization.
  • Experiencing with video editing.

Compensation
This is a full-time, exempt position with benefits. We offer a competitive salary range from $72k-$75k with a benefits package that includes:

"Canal Alliance is planning to embark on a 4 Day Work Week Pilot (with full pay), set to run February to June, with typical work hours Monday through Thursday 9am to 5pm for this position."
Location
This position is hybrid, with 2-3 days onsite in San Rafael. Attendance at quarterly in-person staff retreats, and any other in person trainings and meetings as needed as well as occasional night and weekend events.
