POSITION SUMMARY
The Dietary Aide assists with the preparation and delivery of meals to patients, staff, physicians, family members and visitors. The Dietary Aide role includes helping cooks, performing kitchen duties, arranging for and unloading / restocking supplies, dishwashing, and general cleaning of the kitchen / cafeteria work area.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Experience in food service or hospital dietary function desirable, but not a requirement.
Certification in sanitation / Safe Food Handling is preferred.
Must be able to read, write and understand the English language.
Ability to read and understand and follow recipe directions, diet orders, tray cards/menus, and work assignments.
Numerical ability is necessary for recipe preparation and proper measuring of cleaning agents and chemicals.
Must be able to lift/carry up to 50 pounds.
Clean and appropriately groomed in complying with hospital infection control policies and procedures.
Must be a supportive team member, contribute to and be an example of team work and team concept.
Must possess the ability to make independent decision when circumstances warrant such action.
Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with patients, staff, physicians, family members, and visitors.
POSITION SPECIFIC PERFORMANCE MEASURES:
Assist in preparation and portion of meal items according to menu and diet requirements.
Set up patient trays and carts according to menu and diet requirements ensuring accuracy. Delivers trays to appropriate patient unit.
Monitors food and beverage to assure proper temperature for services.
Collects soiled food trays. Cleans workspaces , cooking and serving equipment, trays, and dishes according to department procedures.
Prepares dietary supplements/snacks and other foods according to standardized recipes or manufacturers instructions.
Maintains food service are in clean condition at all times in accordance with facility procedures.
Handles, stores, and disposes of food supplies, and prepares food in accordance with departmental procedures and in compliance with state and federal regulation.
Help the kitchen staff with as needed.
