- Performs repairs and assigned preventative maintenance services, including inspection, diagnostic, and repair of electrical, hydraulic, and various other mechanical components on vehicles and equipment and routine maintenance and repairs on facilities, including emergency repairs in the field
- Utilizes various computer and electronic systems to diagnose and repair equipment failures, documentation of repairs, parts consumed, and/or initiate or assign repairs.
- Determines, schedules and performs preventative maintenance including lubrication, oil changes and tune-ups on cars, light and heavy trucks, truck equipment, trailers, tractors, heavy equipment and machinery.
- Maintains work area in a safe and clean manner.
- Operates vehicles, construction equipment, machinery and tools for highway construction and maintenance, construction and maintenance materials handling, sand and gravel mining and fleet maintenance.
- Fabricates products by using processes such as welding, torch cutting, and other established methods.
- Assists in the maintenance of clean, orderly, and safe equipment as well as work area and facility, consistent with Highway Department and County policies and procedures and State and Federal safety requirements. Strictly adheres to safety procedures and policies.
- Estimates time and material costs on repairs/maintenance and requisitions new parts through established procedures.
- Completes required paperwork/maintenance logs utilizing facility tracking procedures.
- Serves as back up for various Highway operations as necessary, including during peak seasonal demand, which may include operation of a plow truck or other heavy equipment.
- Assists the public in warm and courteous manner, to answer general questions, ascertain the appropriate contact within the department or county, or refer to an outside source in an efficient manner.
- Participates as a team member to improve efficiency and cooperatively solve problems

- Valid Wisconsin CDL with following Class and endorsements, or must obtain Class B with Air Brakes within six (6) months of date of hire, and within twelve (12) months obtain class A with tanker.
- Must obtain mobile air conditioning, and commercial motor vehicle inspection certifications within (12) months of date of hire.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to sit, walk, stand, use hands to finger, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, climb and balance, stoop, bend, kneel, talk and hear and smell.
- The employee must be able to lift and carry up to 60 lbs., and occasionally lift and/or move 100 pounds.
