Purpose and Scope of Job:
Primary areas of responsibility are preparation and review of mechanical engineering prototype drawings, part number generation and creation of Bill Of Material while conforming to departmental and company standards.
Essential Functions (other duties may be assigned):
- Assist R&D Engineers in the design phase of development projects by conceptualizing, and iterating part and system designs.
- Generate 3-dimensional Computer Aided Design (CAD) models and 2-dimensional manufacturing drawings of mechanical prototype parts and systems.
- Assign prototype part numbers, create Bill Of Materials (BOM), and maintain revision control throughout the product development cycle.
- Participate in review process with Engineering and standardization team to transition drawings from prototype to production phase.
- Work on test layouts, suggest efficient ways of arranging R&D tests.
- Develop solutions to design assignments and technical problems.
- Lead technical coordination of project drawings and documents with all internal team members and vendors.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Associate Degree in Engineering, Engineering Design, or equivalent experience. Bachelor’s degree in Engineering is preferred.
- Seven (7+) years of experience as a designer or mechanical drafter.
- Experience in Mechanical Power Transmission and rotating equipment (ideally gearboxes).
- Working knowledge of manufacturing processes, fabrication, geometric tolerancing.
- Knowledge of industrial materials (ASTM, AISI etc), and ability to select them based on the component application.
- Working knowledge Computer Aided Design (CAD); preferably with Autodesk AutoCAD and Inventor.
