When you join Design Group as a Fire Protection Designer, you are joining a team that will challenge you and position you for growth. In this role, you will work with a team of industry experts to help the world's leading companies solve their most difficult problems. You will join our Architecture/Engineering Process Practice and partner with seasoned leaders, technical specialists, and subject matter experts to deliver the highest quality solutions to our clients with consistency and accuracy.
What You'll Do
You'll work individually and in teams to support capital projects and implement solutions for our clients. Together, you will help our clients make critical changes to improve their performance and realize their most important goals.
- Work under the direction of a licensed Fire Protection Engineer to gain experience designing Fire Protection systems (fire sprinkler, fire pump, fire detection and alarm, special hazards systems) for industrial, manufacturing, and distribution facilities.
- Support engineers and senior designers with various Fire Protection engineering code consulting and design efforts across the firm.
- Learn to review and interpret model Building and Fire Code requirements and NFPA standards.
- Learn to perform field evaluations of existing Fire Protection systems.
- Learn to interface with on-site construction staff and remote cross functional architecture and engineering project teams across multiple offices.
- Learn to evaluate water supplies, perform engineering calculations, develop specifications, and oversee preparation of plans for bidding, permit acquisition, and construction.
- Review fire sprinkler and fire alarm contractor shop drawings and calculations for code and contract document compliance.
- Make an impact day-to-day with your skills and expertise, strengthening that relationship with our clients and team.
What You'll Bring
- Experience in a Fire Protection graduate engineering role (preferred)
- Hands-on Fire Protection engineering design experience for industrial facility projects (preferred).
- Through school course work or recent work experience, show an entry level ability to complete Fire Protection system analysis, sizing, and design, drawing production, specifications, and report writing.
- Excellent communication skills, interpersonal skills, the ability to effectively interact with our team members and clients.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office products.
- AutoCAD, Revit, Plant 3D, or Navisworks experience is a plus.
- Experience with a fire sprinkler hydraulic calculation program.
- Willingness to travel to project sites and collaborate with design professionals in other offices for training and other purposes, client and company sponsored meetings, industry related seminars, forums, and conventions.
- A Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering, Fire Protection engineering, or a related Fire Protection technology program from an ABET accredited institution
- An Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification (preferred).
