Role Definition
Designs, develops, builds, and implements new components, products, or technologies for advance electrical controls.
Responsibilities
• Researching new competitive products. Organizing, coordinating, and executing the building, testing, and analysis of prototypes.
• Overseeing the efforts of drafting and testing specialists.
• Developing and documenting functional requirements and translating into detail design documents. Participating in buy-build analysis for product components.
• Participating in and supporting proposal preparation, cost estimates, and technical reports.
• Requires a degree in an accredited Engineering, Computer Science, or Materials Science curriculum.

Provides leadership to drawing detailers as necessary and helps train new individuals in the group in electrical concepts.  Participates on various teams as required.  Provides technical guidance during product buildup and test.  Ensures proper maintenance of production/manufacturing drawings.  The incumbent, as part of activity in the design process, organizes and makes design review presentations.  Gathers and summarizes data and writes technical reports.

Computer-Aided Design & Engineering: Knowledge of tools and techniques of specialized graphics programs; ability to produce, analyze, simulate and test product design drafts.
Level Working Knowledge:
• Generates specifications for parts or components with AutoCAD Electrical software.
• Reuses design components via reusable libraries following standard procedures.
• Uses AutoCAD Electrical to perform basic drafting such as wire frames, solid objects and array of objects.
• Performs routine changes to computerized schematics or drawings.
• Creates views of objects in 2 and 3 dimensions; creates perspective drawings and orthogonal views.

• Creates reports from AutoCAD Electrical such as Wire Lists, BOM, connector, and error reports

• Review projects from fellow peers for quality and accuracy. Organize training topics from these reviews.
Product Design - MFG: Knowledge of processes, approaches, tools and techniques of product design; ability to convert customer and market requirements into product design.
Level Working Knowledge:
• Participates in the conception process of a manufacturing product vision.
• Collects and analyzes manufacturing requirements, and generates reports.
• Utilizes design methods to implement the construction of a new design model.
• Uses automated tools to design or modify the design of a product.
• Assists in the testing and refinement of a new product/component design.
BACKGROUND/EXPERIENCE:  Requires an engineering degree or equivalent experience to gain a mastery of engineering principles and concepts.  Must have a good understanding of manufacturing processes and hardware and software systems.  Requires good communication skills and understanding of the needs of facility.
