Position Description:
Class A Surface Designer Technical Specialist molds the creative vision into usable production intent surfaces while retaining the visual allure and identity of the design vision.
Skills Required:
- Leads program surface progression of Design and surface expert evaluation.
- Leads cross-system surface execution to ensure full system surface compatibility with A surface excellence.
- Confirms all program surface interfaces are "Designed-in-Context" to a coordinated data set including supplier data.
- Develops and maintains a coordinated Class A surface database (i.e. Reference Manager)
- Ensures incorporation of appropriated technical, attribute and program requirements into surface whilst maintaining the design vision.
- Drives resolution of surface data issues by leading power wall and digital reviews,
- Manages surface changes in database system (SDMS system)
- Maintain program product structure and part history in database release system (Team Center) to accurately represent evolution of design and change control.
- Supports workload distribution, and prioritization of Class A surface development.
- Facilitate program surface progression through the theme feasibility process. Develop and assist (mentor) Class A Surface Designers in the delivery of feasible math surfaces aligned with program milestones requirements that delivers design intent.
- Develop Surfaces necessary to support the theme and feasibility development process up to and including final Class A production prove-out and tooling release.
Experience Required:
- 5+ years of Class A experience (Alias, ICEM Surf, ISD/IDX, Maya), preferably within the automotive OEM creative Space.
- Understanding of latest industry quality standards for Automotive Class A surface.
- Ability to analyze and validate Class A surface geometry for "best construction and Design practice" and providing feedback as necessary.
- Proficiency in developing and reviewing models in Unreal, VRED or equivalent rendering software.
- Comprehensive understanding of material selection and impact on surfacing opportunities. This might include material behaviors beyond "free state" such as installed positions.
- Thorough working knowledge of the Surface development process from Design conception phase though production release for both Exterior and Interior Design and components.
Education Required:
- bachelor's degree in industrial design, transportation design, mechanical engineering, or equivalent practical experience
