Job Description Summary
This position is for a Design Engineer in the Rotating Components group and will be responsible for large engine gear train design supporting NPI/NTI, CPI, factory/product support, and engaging with external suppliers. This role is highly collaborative with Platform Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, and Supply Chain teams located at Lafayette, IN as well as Corporate Gear group and Validation teams located in the Peoria, IL area.
Job Description
As a Design Engineer, you will direct and perform design and development projects to ensure new and existing products meet functional requirements for reliability, quality, serviceability, and design for remanufacturing. This role will support component design of the large engine (3500, C175, and 3600 platforms) gear portfolio within LPSD's Rotating Components design control.
Job Duties/Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
- Conduct print updates and releasing activities for NPI/CPI/ NSI and engineering change request
- Component assessment for NPI/NTI program to ensure it will meet defined functional requirement
- Develop DFMEA's and highlight mitigation activities, coordinate validation activities, and analyze results
- Collaborate with other engineering teams to develop components that meet product requirements
- Collaborate with external suppliers to develop new components leveraging APQP, evaluate process changes and define validation activities, reviewing PPAP submittals
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology and 1 year experience in product design OR Associates degree and 3 years of relevant experience OR 5 years of relevant experience.
- Strong communications skills and working with cross functional teams
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects
Top Candidates will also have:
- Experience in the design, support or manufacture of diesel and nature gas engines
- Engine component or system design experience
- Experience in NPI (New Product Introduction), CPI (Current Product Improvement) or Cost Reduction design and development
- Proficiency in Pro/E or other modeling and/or simulation tools
- Experience working in a fast paced globally located teams
