Achilles USA is a looking for a detail oriented, Design Engineer to join our collaborative team. This Design Engineer will be collaborating with our sales department to create product formulas, analyze formulas for cost savings and develop new products to meet customer needs. A successful Design Engineer would have a strong attention to detail, enjoy collaborating with others and be extremely organized.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Develop new formulations to meet customer and process requirements as per established procedures, and conduct any confirmation testing (heat stability, printing, weathering, etc.).
- Create new product part masters via Design and Test Requests – assign appropriate formula, optimize packaging and palletizing, and cost using appropriate speed.
- Create and maintain customer specifications in the Achilles Information Management System (AIMS).
- Create and maintain set-up guides for assigned calendar/extrusion line(s).
- Evaluate new raw materials (direct offsets, cost-down alternatives) and create Tech Reports based on any testing, observations and conclusions.
- Assist Quality and Production departments in investigating and reporting on non-conforming material.
- Assist Quality and Production departments on investigating and reporting on customer complaints, including any corrective actions.
- Assign used compound (UC) codes to recipes and formulate in UC to reduce scrap inventory.
- Review and sign off on work orders.
- Perform color matching for customer provided sample, Pantone, and in the case of obsolete pigments in formulations.
- Provide samples as requested (retains, roll mill, etc.).
- Utilize Achilles Request System to view and complete Design and Sales Requests.
- Create and maintain color standards in Data Color computer and Check 3 handheld units.
- Assist Sr. Development Engineers in Priority Project work, including but not limited to part creation, attending test productions, setting up internal testing and writing test releases.
- Complete any regulatory requests and stay current on major regulation updates.
- Provide Sales with cost estimates and production capabilities for new product inquiries.
- Meet with customers and suppliers onsite, and travel to visit customers and attend trade shows and seminars.
- Perform basic laboratory testing.
- Various other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Education/Training: 4 year Engineering Degree in Chemical Engineering, Industri-al Engineering or other related fields.
- Experience: Manufacturing engineering work experience is preferred but not required for all engineering levels.
- Skills/Aptitude: Effective oral and written communication, computer literacy, mathematical, and excellent inter-personal skills.
- Working Conditions: Office, factory, and laboratory environment. Overnight travel could be required.
