Job description

At Blue Origin, we envision millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. We're working to develop reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems within a culture of safety, collaboration, and inclusion. Join our diverse team of problem solvers as we add new chapters to the history of spaceflight!
As part of a small, passionate, and accomplished team of engineers and technicians, you will design and build the electrical systems for the Avionics Integration Labs for the Blue Origin Lunar Landers (Blue Moon - https://www.blueorigin.com/blue-moon ). These labs are also known as the Vehicle Test Beds (VTBs). The VTBs will be used to ensure the correctness and performance of the vehicle avionics software, the interfaces between the subsystems, and the interfaces with other space vehicles/systems. You will also design and build the avionics emulators which will be sent to NASA and our partners for integration and testing. Your focus will be on the lab architecture, hardware, and infrastructure (sensor emulator modules, cable harnessing, instrumentation, etc.).
This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit. To further Blue Origin's mission of having millions of people living and working in space, we are building sustainable infrastructure for our transport of crew and cargo from Earth to the Lunar Surface.
You will work directly with NASA and our National Team Partners as part of the Human Landing System (HLS) Sustaining Lunar Development (SLD) program. You will play a key role in developing the Lunar Transportation system that will return humans to the Moon and extend human presence permanently beyond the bounds of Earth. This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your commitment and detailed attention toward safe and repeatable space flight. Join us in lowering the cost of access to space and enabling Blue Origin's vision of millions of people living and working in space to benefit Earth!
We are looking for someone to apply their technical expertise, leadership skills, and dedication to quality to positively impact safe human spaceflight. Passion for our mission and vision is required!
Because of the need for hands-on work, this position requires on-site work at Kent, WA.
Responsibilities included but were not limited to:

  • Participate in the requirements, design, architecture, procurement, build, integration, verification, and certification of the VTBs and avionics emulators.
  • Create and release drawings of the VTB hardware infrastructure, rack layouts, harnesses, breakout boxes/panels, power distribution, and grounding.
  • Identify and procure equipment, and coordinate with technicians for the build, assembly, and installation of equipment and harnesses.
  • Support the integration of flight avionics, hardware, operator consoles, test equipment, and analysis tooling necessary to verify the requirements and performance of avionics units under test within the VTB.
  • Support checkout of the avionics systems and solving technical problems.
  • Maintain configuration control of the drawings and the VTB configuration.
  • Support problem investigation and resolution.
  • Support the implementation of approved changes.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • B.S. degree in electrical engineering, aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, computer science, or related technical degree
  • 4+ years of industry experience with avionics systems integration and verification
  • 4+ years of industry experience with the design and building of electrical systems
  • Excellent problem investigation skills and proficiency in the use of standard electronic lab test equipment (oscilloscopes, DMMs, power meters, data acquisition cards, etc)
  • Solid understanding and appreciation for configuration management principles
  • Ability to produce electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, mechanical drawings, and rack layouts
  • Ability to produce written assembly procedures
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum
Preferred Qualifications:
  • M.S. degree in electrical engineering, aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, computer science, or related technical degree
  • Experience defining, designing, and/or operating electrical ground support equipment, labs, and/or test assets for hardware in the loop testing
  • Experience with the development and execution of a large-scale verification of avionics on autonomous spaceflight systems
  • Experience with verification of communication and radio systems in integrated laboratories
  • Experience with Zuken, Windchill, and JAMA

Compensation range for on site WA applicants is
