About the Organization
The Wisconsin Civic Power Table (WCPT) is a 501(C)(3) fiscally-sponsored organization and the Wisconsin affiliate of the State Voices network. WCPT convenes a community of over 45 partners, providing support, accountability, and cohesive strategy to build collective and well-organized power. Specifically, WCPT provides capacity, grants, data, tools, and coordination to help its partners create a healthy and thriving democracy through a racial equity lens. WCPT and its partners promote civic engagement, access, and representation through a variety of methods, including: voter education, registration, and mobilization; issue advocacy, base building, community organizing, communications, and litigation. Overview
The Wisconsin Civic Power Table seeks an ambitious, detail-oriented, and committed individual to serve as Deputy Director. This individual is a strategic leader with strong programming, coalition, and organizing experience. We’re seeking someone with a record of successfully managing teams of people who will add to the capacity of our organization and support staff growth. Under the current structure this position will manage the Data Manager and Coalition Coordinator. The ideal candidate will have experience in civic engagement and knowledge and understanding of political issues and the Wisconsin political context as well as the ability to maintain good relationships with our Table partners. This position will report to the Executive Director (ED).
Primary Functions
Staff Management
- Provide positive management to staff that facilitates their focus on the right priorities, ensures
goals are met, and supports their professional development and growth
- Create and support processes to align the team, monitor progress, and share capacity
- Lead annual staff work planning processes and collaborate to provide annual staff retreats
- Maintain a fun, challenging, rewarding, and grounded team culture
Partner Engagement
- Support the Coalition Coordinator in managing and implementing the Table membership
structure, including the partner application process and accountability measures
- Navigate complex or politically sensitive situations with a high level of discernment and
professionalism, while ensuring a respectful experience for all parties
- Assist the coalition coordinator in developing and disseminating communications to partners
- Work with the ED to manage the granting process, including requests for proposals and the
reporting process
Vision, Strategy, and Leadership
- Collaborate with the ED to make staffing, strategy, and resource decisions to achieve goals
- Act as a thought partner to the ED and play a key implementation role for strategies and ideas
- Support fundraising proposals by tracking/monitoring the work and wins of our Table Coalition and sharing the responsibility for developing the content of our proposals and funder pitches
- Stay abreast of relevant developments; identify emerging gaps or opportunities for impact
- Be visionary and contribute cool ideas
Qualifications
- High-level understanding of social change and progressive movements backed by direct
experience with grassroots and/or electoral organizing efforts
- Strategic systems thinker and resourceful problem solver
- Success supervising and mentoring staff, as well as supporting leadership development
- 2+ years of experience in management roles
- Excellent communicator and writer who can tailor messages to different audiences and
synthesize complex issues; an ideal candidate will bring experience as a spokesperson
- Collaborative, developmental approach to leadership
- Engaging and confident interpersonal style
- Commitment to the liberatory politic necessary to achieve an effective and inclusive democracy
- Proven ability to function in a dynamic field, to take initiative, and to make tough decisions
- An awareness of basic data management and a willingness to learn new tools
- Demonstrated commitment to racial equity and social justice as well as cultural proficiency
- 4+ years of relevant experience, which could include political strategy, organizing, development,
and/or operations in a nonprofit organization
This application is open to remote applicants but preference will be given to those based in Wisconsin.
Compensation and Benefits
This is a full-time position.
The proposed salary for this position is $80,000 - $100,000. The Wisconsin
Civic Power Table provides a full benefits package that supports the employees’ well-being, financial
security, and familial needs.
