Job Summary:
Marist College invites applications for the position of Deputy Chief of Staff and Liaisonto the Board of Trustees. The Deputy Chief of Staff (CoS) and Liaison to the Boardof Trustees works closely with the VPSI/CoS and President on a wide variety of executive and administrative duties, in order to promote the overall effectiveness of both the president and the institution. In addition to supervising the President's Office staff, the Deputy Chief of Staff also works to manage projects and processes and to coordinate the president's interactions with members of the senior leadership team, faculty, staff, students, alumni, elected officials, community members, etc. They are also the primary liaison and Secretary to the Board of Trustees.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in humanities, business, or related field (MA, MBA, MFA, MPA, etc.)
  • Five to eight years of related work experience

Essential Functions:
  • Support for Presidential/President's Office Effectiveness - Work in close and daily partnership with the VPSI/CoS, President, and President's Office staff to support effectiveness and maximize efficiency through the strategic allocation of the president's time, timely and thorough event preparation, the drafting of communications and talking points, the management of follow-up items, and the resolution of issues. The Deputy CoS is supported in this work by two executive assistants, whose work they supervise. In partnership with the VPSI/CoS and the VP of Communications and Marketing, provide the president with counsel and feedback on messaging, writing, and presentation performance for continuous improvement. Occasional attendance at events where the president plays a key role, including some night, weekend, and off-campus events, and events involving travel.
  • Senior leadership team coordination - Manage the president's relationships with direct reports and assist in the direction of their efforts through agenda-setting, tracking, and follow-up on any items identified during 1:1 meetings. Act as a Liaison to various leadership teams, including the President's Advisory Council (PAC, made up of 10 VPs/divisional leaders) and President's Cabinet (PAC plus 13 other senior leaders including school deans), assisting with agenda-setting, meeting facilitation, documentation of meeting outcomes, and follow-up.
  • Board liaison - Act as Secretary (one of five College officers) to the 35-member Board of Trustees, providing a variety of specialized duties on the Board's behalf. Work closely with the Chair of the Board, President, VPSI/CoS, and vice presidents who staff standing committees to strategically shape the agendas for all regular and special meetings; record official meeting minutes for all full board and executive committee meetings; serve as the dedicated staff liaison for all confidential committees and meetings; direct trustee onboarding and professional development; and draft and disseminate trustee-related communications.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications:
Excellent written and verbal communication skills. A demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks and work independently to meet stated objectives. The ability to build and maintain relationships. A commitment to confidentiality. Strong project-management and organizational skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite/Office 365, videoconferencing software, and board portal software preferred.

  • Tuition Benefits:
    • Up to 16 undergraduate credits per semester. Up to 18 graduate credit per academic calendar. Eligibility extends to employee, spouse, and dependent children under age 26.
    • College pays 100% tuition only.
    • Eligible dependents may be Reimbursed up to $2,000 per semester towards tuition at another accredited institution.
