The Department of Public Social Services has a paid internship opportunity with Administrative Services. This opportunity will provide the intern experience with law enforcement functions of the Inspections Branch by learning the
various methods and tools used to conduct regulatory and criminal investigations. The intern will also be exposed to law enforcement procedures, tools to conduct skip tracing investigations, investigative report writing, criminal statistical analysis, welfare fraud laws and applications, and law enforcement procedures.
This internship will be located in Riverside with a 1-year minimum commitment. The position requires the intern to report on-site with an anticipated maximum 20-24-hour workweek with flexibility around school.
EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Student Intern will assist the Admin Services Department.
Duties will include but is not limited to:
- Support Inspections Branch for Department of Social Services
- Provide support for Welfare Fraud Investigations
- Reviewing various computer programs
- Developing Statistical Analysis
- Conducting Chart Analysis
- Completing low level case assignments
- Preparing reports of investigation findings
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Current enrollment in a Bachelor's program as a first year (freshman) or second year (sophomore) student at an accredited college or university in a program relevant to the specific internship: Public or Business Administration, human Resources, Organizational studies, Psychology, Sociology, or other Behavioral Sciences and Criminal justice.
Minimum Cumulative GPA: 3.0
Knowledge and Experience in research methods and techniques; investigative techniques and procedures; the principles of identification, preservation, and presentation of evidence; the legal rights of citizens; the rules of evidence and of court procedures; commercial and property laws and credit transactions; legal procedures; the methods of financial record keeping.
The goals and functions of the specific profession to which assigned; use of computer hardware and software as needed to accurately perform duties.
Ability to: Take direction and supervision; benefit and learn rapidly from on-the-job training; think logically and write clearly and concisely; compile data, analyze statistical data and prepare reports; learn to operate and use specialized equipment; maintain cooperative relations with co-workers and the public.
Temporary employees participate in the 401(a) Temporary and Part-Time Employees' Retirement Plan and are required to contribute 3.75% of salary to the pension plan.
