This vacancy announcement is intended to cover national bargaining unit agreements for New York Harbor Health Care System- Manhattan, Brooklyn & St. Albans Campus. At the VA New York Harbor Healthcare System, we conduct research to discover knowledge, develop VA scientists and health care leaders, and create innovations that advance health care for Veterans and the nation. Our VA New York Harbor Healthcare System medical centers are teaching hospitals that provide a full range of services, with state-of-the-art technology as well as education and research.
We have active affiliations with the State University of New York (SUNY) Downstate, New York University School of Medicine, New York University School of Dentistry, and the SUNY School of Optometry. We offer fully integrated residency programs in general medicine, general surgery, and several specialties, including cardiology, dentistry, endocrinology, gastroenterology, hematology/oncology, optometry, pulmonary, nephrology, infectious disease, rheumatology, urology, orthopedic surgery, ophthalmology, otolaryngology, anesthesiology, dermatology, pathology, and rehabilitation medicine.
We also offer associated health training in nursing, audiology, speech pathology, occupational therapy, physical therapy, psychology, pharmacy, and social work. In addition, administrative residents and fellows and health systems specialist trainees regularly pursue internships at our medical centers.

Education Debt Reduction Program (Student Loan Repayment): This position may be eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application. Qualifications
Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met.
Dentist Basic Requirements
  • A degree of Doctor of Dental Surgery or dental medicine resulting from a course of education in dentistry. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools are (1) United States and Canadian schools of dentistry listed by the Commission on Dental Accreditation(CODA), in the list published for the year in which the course of study was completed.(2) Schools (including foreign schools) accepted by the licensing body of a State, Territory, or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico), or the District of Columbia as qualifying for full and unrestricted licensure provided the licensure requirements include a written examination measuring science achievement and a performance examination measuring clinical competence certification, and must obtain a copy of the ECFMG certificate, if claimed by the applicant. ~AND~
  • Completed, or you are currently completing, a residency program in general practice or specialty, or comparable experience as a dentist actively involved in treating medically compromised patients. ~AND~
  • Currently hold, or will hold, a current, full and unrestricted license to practice dentistry in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. Note: Dentists must maintain current registration in the State of licensure if this is a requirement for continuing active, current licensure.
