- Provide instruction, oversight of quality and integrity, and implement the Dental Hygiene/Assisting programs, while administering and/or educating students in the study of dental hygiene and dental assisting in accordance with the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) curriculum standards and objectives.
- Maintain direct communication with the institutional administrators who are responsible for decisions that directly affect the program.
- Include formal provisions for program planning, staffing, management, coordination and evaluation.
- Fulfill administrative responsibilities, program administrative hours, and teaching contact hours in accordance with CODA standards, and institutional guidelines.
- Satisfy the authority and responsibility necessary to fulfill program goals to include: a) curriculum development, evaluation and revision; b) faculty recruitment, assignments and supervision; c) input into faculty evaluation; d) initiation of program or department in-service and faculty development; e) assessing, planning and operating program facilities; f) Input into budget preparation and fiscal administration; and g) coordination, evaluation and participation in determining admission criteria and procedures as well as student promotion and retention criteria.
- Coordinate and participate in recruitment activities for program growth and sustainability.
- Assist in marketing and promoting the program.
- Collaborate with faculty in recruiting, advising, orientation, and retention efforts.
- Assist in the selection, orientation, and supervision of new full-time and part-time faculty.
- Maintain frequent contact with part-time faculty.
- Regularly participate as a member of assigned institutional committees.
- Maintain assigned teaching responsibilities.
- Participate in coordinating, developing, and assessing Program Outcomes and Student Learning Outcomes to make program enhancements and improvements.
- Serve as an advisor to students while maintaining and posting the required number of office hours per week for student conferences.
- Develop and maintain relationships and partnerships with community partners to provide clinical experiences for students.
- Ensure that the program advisory committee meets at least annually and that minutes are recorded and submitted as directed.
- Engage in discipline specific professional development in addition to professional development related to educational methodology and administration.
- Demonstrate proficiency in technology required by the program area and in administrative processes as required by the college.
- Obtain and maintain program accreditation through the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA).
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the Department Chair and/or Associate Vice President for the School of Nursing and Health Professions.
(M2) Meet certification, registration or licensure required to practice in the state of Mississippi or have the ability to obtain such.
(M3) Masters degree or higher (A dentist who was appointed as program administrator prior to July 1, 2022 is exempt from this graduation requirement).
(M4) A minimum of three full time or five part time years (6,000 hours) of recent experience as a dental hygienist or a dentist.
(M5) Able to instruct, assess, and evaluate dental hygiene student learning and performance following CODA standards (educational theory and methodology, e.g., curriculum development, educational psychology, test construction, measurement and evaluation).
(D2) Experience in a variety of dental settings.
(D3) Community college and/or university teaching experience in dentistry.
(D4) Multi-media instructional delivery knowledge and experience.
State and regional associations accredit Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College, and several programs are accredited nationally. Offerings include academic, technical degree, vocational skill and adult continuing education programs.
