Job Description
Teach didactic/lab/clinical courses within the Dental Hygiene program, and related courses to a diverse student population.
Participate in student advisement, program review, outcomes assessment, and assume other professional assignments as required/assigned.
Incorporate case based learning methods and evaluations that contribute to outcome assessments.
Participate in curriculum development and serve on department, division, college and district committees as necessary to maintain and improve the instructional program; participate in appropriate professional development activities.
Participate in co-curricular activities, including planning, implementing, and teaching in special programs designed to support student success.
Participate in the formulation of Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) and the Student Learning Outcomes assessment cycle.
Maintain formal office and campus hours; participate in department and division meetings.
Maintain current knowledge of instructional methods and new technologies pertinent to areas of assignment; learn and apply emerging technologies and advances (e.g., computer software applications) as necessary to perform duties in an efficient, organized and timely manner.
Teach scheduled classes and perform related duties as assigned, including timely compliance with clerical and administrative responsibilities; comply with district, college and division policies in the performance of duties.
Instruct and assist in the growth and success of a diverse population of students through careful preparation of course materials, effective teaching methodologies and informed critical feedback on assignments and discussions.
Develop culturally relevant course content, culturally responsive pedagogical techniques, and effective practices for engaging students who are diverse and/or are students who are historically underserved. The ideal candidate should have experience in this area with African American, Latinx, Native Americans, Pacific Islanders and other disproportionately impacted students.
Work cooperatively with staff and students.
Evening and/or weekend assignments may be required as part of the regular contract.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree or higher AND two years of professional experience directly related to the teaching assignment;
An active California Dental or Dental Hygiene license or special permit with no disciplinary actions; or a post-secondary credential generally recognized in the field of instruction; or a degree in the subject being taught or evaluated. All program faculty shall have documented background in educational methodology every two years, consistent with teaching assignments.
1. Clinical teaching faculty shall have direct patient care experience within the previous five (5) years in the Dental Hygiene area to which he or she is assigned, which can be met by either: Two (2) years' experience providing direct patient care as a registered dental hygienist or dentist; or One (1) academic year of dental or dental hygienist level clinical teaching experience;
2. Didactic teaching faculty shall possess the following minimum qualifications: Current knowledge of the specific subjects taught, which can be met by either: having completed twelve (12) hours of continuing education in the designated subject area; or (2) semester units or three (3) quarter units of Dental Hygiene education related to the designated Dental Hygiene area; or have national certification in the designated Dental Hygiene area.
Possess an active California Dental or Dental Hygiene license, including certification in local anesthesia, nitrous oxide sedation, and soft tissue curettage by August 22, 2024.
Possess current Health Care Provider Basic Life Support Certification by August 22, 2024.

Desirable Qualifications
Instruct and assist in the growth and success of a diverse population of students through careful preparation of course materials, effective teaching methodologies and informed critical feedback on assignments and discussions.
Bachelor degree or higher in Dental Hygiene from and accredited institution.
Five years of recent experience as a licensed dental hygienist with experience in the use of local anesthesia and the utilization of advanced instrumentation in non-surgical periodontal therapy.
Didactic and clinical experience in radiation safety and pre-clinical Dental Hygiene.
Knowledge of educational theory and practice, i.e., curriculum development, educational psychology, test construction, measurement and evaluation, outcomes assessment and case based learning.
Recent teaching experience in Dental Hygiene.
Working knowledge of current Dental Hygiene Board of California and Commission on Dental Accreditation.
Effective oral and written communication skills.
Experience working effectively in informal and formal teaming arrangements with individuals from diverse communities and cultures.
