Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Assisting the dentist during a variety of treatment procedures
- Operate dental radiography equipment for the purpose of oral radiography if the Dental Assistant has complied with the requirements of Section 1656
- Obtain medical history, vitals, make chart entries, and assure completion of forms and signatures
- Maintain a sterile and neat working environment according to current infection control procedures
- Operatory prep and breakdown including normal clean-up of operatories and cabinets
- Prepare and sterilize instruments and equipment
- Review daily schedule to set up appropriate trays and instruments
- Provide patients with instructions for oral care following surgery or other dental treatment procedures
- Teaching patients appropriate oral hygiene strategies to maintain oral health (tooth brushing, flossing and nutritional counseling)
- Taking impressions of patient’s teeth for study casts
- Performing office management tasks that often require the use of a personal computer; Enter vitals, treatment plans, patient education, and e-mail communication.
- Ensure Infection Control logs are completed as per Policies and Procedures
- Responsible for monthly inspection of medications and supplies
- Stock operatories and maintain clinical supply inventory
- Communicates with purchasing department and vendors to assure prompt receipt of all orders
- Responsible for supply inventory and ensuring routine maintenance of equipment
- Assume the responsibility associated with any expanded duties that may be delegated by the dentist
