Texas Health and Human Services Commission requires the services of ( 2) Database Administrator 2.

Level Description

4-7 years of experience in the field or in a related area. Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field. Relies on limited experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. A certain degree of creativity and latitude is required. Works under limited supervision with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

Task Include:

  • Entering codes to create production databases.
  • Selecting and entering codes of utility programs to monitor database performance, including distribution of records and available memory.
  • Directing programmers and analysts to make changes to the database management system.
  • Reviewing and correcting programs.
  • Answering user questions.
  • Conferring with coworkers to determine the impact of database changes on other systems and staff cost for making changes.
  • Modifying database programs for performance tuning.
  • Specializing in one or more types of database management systems.
  • Providing assistance in planning, development, maintenance, and monitoring of integrated database systems.
  • Ensuring conceptual and design phases of new applications are consistent with structural parameters within the database environment.
  • Evaluating users' requests for new data elements and systems, incorporating them into the existing shared data environment, and providing technical assistance.
  • Coordinating the use of data to ensure data integrity and control redundancy.
  • Loading databases and reorganizing as needed.
  • Performing data modeling and prototyping.
  • Conducting logical and physical data modeling, designing relational database models, and creating physical data models from logical data models.
  • Performing security recovery procedures.
  • Determining and implementing database search strategies and storage requirements.
  • Maintaining a data dictionary, ensuring uniformity of definitions, and setting standards for its use.
  • Monitoring database performance and recommending efficiency improvements.
  • Creating a test database environment for applications, including the creation of necessary libraries and procedures.
  • Executing procedures necessary to save, retrieve, and recover databases from hardware and software failures within established procedures.
  • Assisting with determining, implementing, and enhancing standards on database security and monitoring agency disaster recovery procedures and systems.
  • Assisting with the installation of database software and analyzing, designing, and implementing databases.
  • Assisting in benchmarking and threshold testing of databases and establishing and controlling necessary database security.
  • Assisting in the selection of database management software.
  • Ensuring user interfaces for database administration and data handling are compliant with accessibility standards.
  • Providing support to users in obtaining data/information when EIR Accessibility issues arise.

Requirements:
  • 5yrs Required - Strong knowledge of database management systems, as well as data warehouse management and decision support tools
  • 5yrs Required - Extensive experience in the development, implementation and maintenance of data warehouses and data marts is desired
  • 5yrs Required - Experience in business objects and in building the data dictionary
  • 5yrs Required - Ability to use data base access tools for application delivery
  • 5yrs Required - Strong familiarity with analysis, planning and management reporting functions
  • 5yrs Required - Well-developed oral and written communications skills
  • 5yrs Required - Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills
  • 5yrs Required - Extremely high level of analytical ability where problems are very unusual and extremely difficult
  • 5yrs Required - Understanding of benchmarking processes and techniques
  • 5yrs Required - Very high level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with others, motivate employees, and elicit work output
  • 5yrs Required - Data Warehousing data population and data modeling techniques for target structures such as Star Schemas, Snowflake Schemas, and highly normalized data models
  • 5yrs Required - GUI based ETL tools such as Informatica, IBM WebSphere DataStage, or similar tools.
  • 5yrs Required - Implementation experience with enterprise class databases e.g. Teradata, Oracle, SQL Server, etc. or similar technologies.
  • 5yrs Required - Implementation experience with analytical and reporting tools e.g. Business Objects, Cognos, Hyperion, MicroStrategy or similar tools.
  • 5yrs Required - Experience with data warehouse implementation process, from business requirements through logical modeling, physical database design, data sourcing and data transformation, data loading, Structured Query Language (SQL), end-user tools, database and SQL pe
  • 5yrs Required - Implementation experience with analytical and reporting tools e.g. Business Objects, Cognos, Hyperion, MicroStrategy or similar tools.
  • 5yrs Required - Excellent analytical; problem-solving; team playing; and oral and written communication skills.
  • 5yrs Required - roven ability to work successfully with technical and non-technical groups and manage multiple responsibilities.
  • 5yrs Preferred - Oracle Database experience
  • 5yrs Preferred - SSRS report creation
  • 1yrs Preferred - M204 database experience

Work Hours and Location: (Required)
  • Services shall be provided during normal business hours unless otherwise coordinated through the Agency. Normal business hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. through 5:00 p.m., excluding Texas state holidays when the agency is closed.
  • The primary work location will be at 701 W 51st Street, Austin, TX 78751.
  • The worker will work remotely.
  • Candidates must be within the State of Texas. Out of State candidates will not be considered.
