Data Security Architect

Federal requirements surrounding data change at breakneck speed. Our client is seeking a new Data Security Architectwho can keep up.

The person in this role will work in a cutting-edge research and development facility that supports cybersecurity efforts around the United States and the world. You will serve as a consultant to your colleagues on projects involving national power grids, artificial intelligence, bioterrorism, climate change, and more.

Creativity is key. The ideal candidate will portray cybersecurity elements and integrate data tagging and tracking requirements into new processes and tools. This data presents a broad and exciting challenge for the right person.

You must be comfortable working autonomously as an individual contributor in a team environment that values innovation, transparency, and thoughtful leadership. You will holistically own a very broad multi-year effort that will transform the way data is managed.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Design and implementation of Data Security strategy, architecture, and platforms, ensuring that the strategic objectives are aligned with organizational business goals.
• Develop and manage Data Security policies and standards in alignment with industry best practices, state and federal regulations, and emerging security technologies.
• Assess a varied set of security data sources to architect, design, and assist in implementing a streamlined security data pipeline and storage solution.
• Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including IT teams, vendors, and government agencies, to ensure that security measures are integrated into all technology solutions.
• Work closely with customer stakeholders to identify and mitigate risks, perform security reviews, design top-tier security practices, and deliver strategic, innovative security offerings.
• Develop, in collaboration with Security and Engineering teams, a strong understanding of existing data sources to drive evolution in architecture patterns, security controls, and best practices.
• Actively participate in the enterprise architecture forum and client engagements where you will represent Data Security interests and provide expertise on security-related issues.
• Evaluates strengths and flaws in Security Architecture designs, including performance, confidentiality, integrity, availability, access, and total cost of ownership.
• Keep abreast of the latest security threats, trends, and technologies, suggesting solutions to mitigate risks as they arise.
• Mentor team members, security engineers, and stakeholders on Data Security Architecture practices at scale.
• Engage the security community, internally and externally, across multiple channels to learn, educate, connect, and inspire.

Minimum Qualifications

• BS/BA and 7+ years of relevant work experience -OR-
• MS/MA and 5+ years of relevant work experience -OR-
• PhD with 3+ years of relevant experience

Preferred Qualifications

• At least 5 years of demonstrated experience in information protection, Data Security, and/or architecture.
• Effective leadership skills and highly adept at consulting, negotiating, communicating, consensus building, presentation, and facilitation.
• Hold one or more industry cyber and/or Data Security certifications.
• Experience designing and deploying complex data tagging and tracking capabilities across structured and unstructured data within a large enterprise.
• Highly adept at innovating and thinking beyond established standards and processes.
• Strong decision-making skills related to implementing Security Architecture and design and a familiarity with securing sensitive data across a variety of system environments.
• Previous experience integrating federal cyber security compliance requirements and data loss prevention capabilities.
• Ability to communicate highly complex technical information clearly and articulately for all levels and audiences.

Salary

• *The target salary for this role ranges from $150,000 to $212,000 per year.
