Job Posting Summary
Mercy University seeks a creative and knowledgeable Data Analyst to design and produce accurate data reports and to help stakeholders from across the institution to make sense of, take action on, and bring alive the University's data.
The analyst will serve as a subject matter expert in Institutional Research initiatives that involve the analysis of institutional data for academic and administrative planning. The analyst will collaborate with departments across the Mercy University campus to conduct analyses and develop data sets, dashboards, and visualizations that will be consumed by the University community.
The selected candidate will be tenacious about finding answers to questions - and coming up with the right questions - that will help to achieve better outcomes and will share Mercy's commitment to equity for the students and communities we serve.
Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities:
  • Design data models that can efficiently be utilized as source data for external and internal reports
  • Integrate data from various systems, examine patterns in data, and draw insights that can be used to support academic and administrative work across the University
  • Serve as a technical liaison between IT, IR and functional areas, leveraging technology to improve business processes
  • Complete reports to maintain compliance with accrediting bodies, government agencies and other external organizations (e.g., NYSED, IPEDS, Middle States, CDS, etc.
  • Develop dashboards and visualizations to monitor key performance indicators for the University; determine the data needs of departments and programs through open communication and collaboration
  • Design and carry-out all steps of IR survey projects including administration, data collection, quality control, analysis, and executive reporting
  • Extract and transform data in preparation for analysis, using demonstrated knowledge of relational database systems and machine learning algorithms
  • Conduct data validation procedures and design methods to improve data integrity
  • Develop strategies to support university-wide initiatives pertaining to data storage and utilization of analytics platforms
  • Coordinate with the Directors to develop periodic reports for the Board of Trustees and its Committees

Qualifications
Required Skills & Experience:
  • 1-5 years of experience in Institutional Research, data analysis, and/or business analytics
  • Ability to identify gaps in business processes and provide data-driven solutions that will yield operational efficiencies.
  • Excellent communication skills, including report writing, interpersonal communication, email, and presentations.
  • Experience with business processes and analytics in higher education preferred
  • Knowledge of advanced visualization software and procedures preferred
Education Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution required; educational background / training in data analytics, research methods, mathematics, and/or computer science preferred
Physical/Other Requirements:
  • Must be able to push, pull, move or lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to meet all general health requirements for the position as per university policies
Compensation offered will be commensurate with the educational background and work experience of the individual.

The Mercy University Retirement Plan is comprised of two components:
Deferred Compensation Plan
All eligible employees may contribute to the Deferred Compensation Plan on a pre-tax basis upon joining the University.
Defined Contribution Plan
Eligible employees are enrolled in the Defined Contribution Plan after two (2) years of full-time employment at Mercy University and receive a semi-monthly contribution from the College, based on age and salary. If an employee is under age 36, they will receive a contribution of 3.3% of their annual salary each pay period. If an employee is age 36 or older, they will receive a contribution of 9% of their annual salary each pay period.
If employed full-time for two (2) or more consecutive years by another institution(s) of higher education (college or university), without an intervening break in service within the last twelve (12) months prior to employment before joining Mercy, please submit a waiting period waiver form to Office of Human Resources. The Defined Contribution will begin as of the first day of the month following receipt of the completed waiver form.
