The Data Analyst is responsible for designing, building, and maintaining dashboards and reports. They work closely with project managers, engineers, and clients to collect, analyst, and visualize data from various sources. They also help improve data quality, processes, and standards.
Responsibilities:
- Function as an analytics and reporting expert by developing standard reports, and designing, running, and maintaining ad hoc data queries
- Participate in the development of reports, metrics, models, scorecards, and dashboards by gathering data and transforming it into stories/insights that drive recommendations and decision-making
- Build reports and dashboards in Microsoft Power BI and other reporting tools
- Build automated processes using scripting tools
- Hold training sessions on how to use the various tools and reports created
- Communicate effectively with report stakeholders to ensure a strong understanding of the methodology behind all calculations
- Perform ad hoc analysis using data from various systems and explain results of analyses to all levels of management
- Provide comprehensive analytical and fact-based reporting to support and/or identify opportunities to impact operational results, make changes to processes, and support strategic initiatives
- Extract, transform, and load data from various sources, such as Excel, SQL, and APIs
- Clean up raw data through the collection, analysis, and interpretation of construction project data to identify trends, potential issues, and areas for improvement
- Ensure data quality, accuracy, and consistency across projects
- Develop and document data standards, best practices, and procedures
- Research and implement new data tools and techniques to enhance our capabilities
- Assist in other duties as assigned, relevant to the achievement of the position's and team's objectives
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in data science, statistics, computer science, engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience
- 2+ years of experience in data analysis, preferably in the construction industry
- Proficient in data sources and visualization tools such as PowerBI, Excel, Smartsheet, and SQL
- Familiar with data visualization, data modeling, and data storytelling
- Willingness to learn new skills and technologies
- Excellent problem-solving, critical thinking, communication, and analytical skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Ability to convey technical concepts and data in a concise and understandable manner
- Must possess a valid drivers license and a satisfactory driving record in accordance to Fortis policy
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working in the construction industry
- Experience with data warehousing and ETL processes
- Experience with data visualization tools such as Tableau or QlikView
- Experience with cloud-based data storage solutions such as Azure or AWS
- Experience working with construction accounting, project management, and scheduling platforms such as Viewpoint Vista, Autodesk Construction Cloud, Procore, Primavera P6, and Microsoft Project
Physical Requirements:
Work is performed in a professional office environment. Role is stationary, often standing or sitting for long periods of time, utilizing standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, etc. Communication with internal and external contacts, including speaking and hearing is required. May occasionally push, pull or lift up to 25 lbs.
Travel Requirements:
All Fortis positions require some level of driving.
