Summary
The purpose of the Student Success Program is to increase college retention and graduation rates for eligible students while fostering an institutional climate supportive of the success of TRIO students. To this end, the Student Support Specialist will provide quality advice and connections to resources to enable student success, retention, and graduation.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Help participants understand advising processes and courses needed for degree completion
- Provide assistance to balance coursework with other obligations
- Review the academic progress of students throughout the academic year
- Assist in maintaining records that comply with federal guidelines for the program
- Provide information on or connection to financial and economic literacy information
- Provide information on or assistance in applying for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
- Provide assistance or connection to assistance in applying to graduate/professional school
- Plan and attend academic/cultural events for program participants
- Provide additional connections to resources for students, as needed, including:
- Tutoring
- Accommodations for students with disabilities
- Career development
- Counseling
- Faculty connections
- Others as appropriate
- Develop, conduct, and evaluate workshops relevant to student retention and graduation
- Represent the Student Success Program at University events and activities

- Master's Degree
- Commitment to the academic success of students
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Familiarity with and commitment to serving disadvantaged students and other groups traditionally under-represented in higher education
- Desire to work in a diverse environment; ability to multi-task, take direction and maintain strict confidentiality
- A commitment to the University's mission, values and strategic plan
