Job duties of a Customer Service Clerk I include the ability to assist and effectively communicate with utility customers; prepare work orders for new service and termination of service; conduct in-depth review of meter readings, water consumption, and their corresponding bill details. Duties also include the review of adjustments and performance of mathematical computations with accuracy.
Also required of a Customer Service Clerk I is the ability to answer an average of 60 telephone calls per day, accept payments in forms of cash, check and money order, file paperwork and balance cash drawer with 100% accuracy.
Customer Service Clerk I must have the ability to use the following equipment, computer, telephone (in automatic call distribution system), 10-key calculator, copy machine, and fax machine.
Embraces the City’s C.A.R.E.S. (Courtesy, Attentiveness, Responsiveness, Empowerment and Stewardship) standards. Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
As condition of employment, the selected applicant will be required to be available and respond to City emergency situations as designated by the Director of Public Utilities.
Requires high school diploma or GED and any combination of education and experience equivalent to satisfactory completion of one year of college education.
EXPERIENCEREQUIREMENT:
In addition to satisfying the vocational/education standards, this position requires a minimum of three months of related, full-time equivalent experience.

Employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies.
