DESCRIPTION OF WORK

JOB SUMMARY: This position is responsible for assisting in the operations of the Senior Center and reports to the Senior Center Supervisor.


Hours: Rotating Shifts

(MUST BE ABLE TO WORK ROTATING SHIFTS AND WEEKENDS WHEN REQUIRED)

JOB REQUIREMENTS

The duties of this position include but are not limited to the following:

  • Providing information to senior adults about programs and activities
  • Opening and closing the facility
  • Maintain a safe environment for the operation of programs and activities
  • Monitoring of fitness center and aquatics area.
  • Perform tasks such as class registration, maintain records of fitness memberships &
clean fitness equipment
  • Assist staff in setting and cleaning up after programs and special events
  • Work with athletic leagues and senior games, perform duties as required
  • Working weekend building rentals and assisting customers
  • Performs other related duties as assigned
  • Adhere to all department revenue collection and cash management policies

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience in recreation field.
  • Previous experience working with senior adults in a recreational facility supervising
public and activities.
  • Basic phone skills.
  • Ability to operate a computer and understanding of Microsoft Office.
  • Cash management experience

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIREMENTS

  • Knowledge of SENIOR CENTER policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of senior adult recreational activities and programming.
  • Knowledge of human service agencies available to SENIOR CENTERs.
  • Skill in analyzing problems and identifying solutions.
  • Skill in preparing clear and accurate reports.
  • Skill in establishing cooperative and productive working relationships.
  • Skill in setting priorities for competing projects.
  • Skill in performing mathematical calculations.
  • Skill in operating computers and other standard office equipment.
  • Skill in interpersonal relations.
  • Skill in oral and written communication.

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS: The Senior Center Supervisor assigns work in terms of general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with procedures, accuracy, and the nature and propriety of the final results.

GUIDELINES: Guidelines include the City Administrative Policy Manual; the City of Rocky Mount Personnel Manual; OSHA requirements; and other safety requirements. These guidelines are generally clear and specific, but may require some interpretation in application.

COMPLEXITY: The work consists of related administrative duties. Frequent interruptions contribute to the complexity of the position.

SCOPE AND EFFECT: The purpose of this position is to assist in the operations of the Senior Center. Success in this position results in the provision of quality programs for area senior citizens.

PERSONAL CONTACTS: Contacts are typically with other City staff, recipients of services, representatives of various human service agencies, and members of the general public.

PURPOSE OF CONTACTS: Contacts are typically to give or exchange information, resolve problems, and provide services.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The work is typically performed while sitting, standing, or stooping. The employee occasionally lifts light objects.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work is typically performed in an office.

SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY: None.
