Job Description

Come join our team to help support our mission by Doing the Most Good! The Salvation Army is looking for a seasonal Custodian at our College for Officer Training in Chicago.

Job Objective:

Maintain assigned buildings associated with the College for Officers Training (CFOT) through general cleaning and upkeep.

 

Essential Functions:

• General cleaning throughout the CFOT campus, including sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, dusting, emptying of trash, washing windows and cleaning bathrooms
• Maintain and clean janitor closets
• Maintain and clean visitor rooms for Brengle and other events
• Detail cleaning of brass throughout the campus
• Clean and polish the elevator threshold and cab
• Report all maintenance related issues to the Property Director
• Clean carpets throughout campus in the summer and as requested by supervisor 

Education and Experience: 

• High School Diploma / GED (preferred)
• A minimum of 3 months experience in facility janitorial maintenance 

Skills and Abilities:

• Ability to speak, write and understand English in a manner sufficient for effective communication with leadership and field personnel
• Basic computer knowledge

Physical Requirements:

• Must be able to lift up to and including 50 pounds occasionally
• Must be able stand and walk for extended periods of time
• Able to bend, squat, climb stairs and ladders, reach above shoulder level, crouch, push and pull
• Have vision acuity 

Working Conditions:

Exposure to dirt, dust, chemicals and solvents.
