POSITION SUMMARY: Responsible for maintaining classrooms, libraries, corridors and stairwells, restrooms and offices in a clean, safe and pleasing manner so that full educational use of areas may always be made.
QUALIFICATIONS: To successfully perform this position, a person must be able to perform each primary duty satisfactorily. The qualifications listed below represent minimum levels of educational achievement, training, skill, and ability necessary.
- Basic computer skills - work orders, supply orders, email, and other basic applications
- Basic reading, writing, and listening skills - verbal and written communication skills
- Experience or willingness to learn
- Basic knowledge of hand tools and cleaning
- Skills to work with people - pleasant, positive, enthusiastic
- Aptitude, physical ability, and stamina
- Be of good moral character (honest and trustworthy)
- Physical strength to lift, carry, and transport supplies, furniture, and school equipment
- Commitment to school appearance and willingness to help faculty and students maintain it
- Knowledge of minor repairs for bathroom /classroom hardware, ceiling tiles, furniture, vents, fluorescent lights, etc.
- Ability to read and comprehend manuals for new minor repair tasks
- Ability to use time effectively
- Ability to maintain good personal hygiene and well-groomed appearance
- Good to excellent employment history
- Good organizational skills - attention to detail
- Ability to observe, assess a situation and problem solve
- Must shovel snow
- Flexibility in schedule - in working overtime

- Ability to climb a ladder, work on scaffold or lift
- Ability to work on 6-8-foot step ladder

ESSENTIAL DUTIES: Employee must have the ability to perform the following essential functions on a timely basis with or without reasonable accommodations. To successfully perform this position, a person must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
- Make sure daily work assignments of the staff in their charge are carried out.
- May direct staff to different areas to work when needs exist, or when work area conflicts arise due to public or school use of various locations.
- Document in writing, for Head Custodian, daily problems or incidents that have occurred on their shift
- Cleaning and/or maintaining assigned areas - stripping/waxing, wet/dry mopping, buffing, dusting, vacuuming, lavatory cleaning, carpet extraction, etc. as assigned by supervisor
- Unlock building/Lockup - check building systems - security
- Inspect the work of the staff in their charge: help, advise, and direct staff to improve performance; and keep Head Custodian informed of the progress of these workers.
- Responsible for ensuring the building is clean and ready for class the following day.
- Assist with special events and activities
- Receive, store, distribute and inventory general supplies
- Assemble and deliver furniture
- Basic equipment care
- Perform minor repairs - hand tools - including replacing light bulbs
- Report needed repairs
- Assist different departments, PTO, and outside groups
- Monitor facility use and assist outside groups using facility
- Work overtime as needed - snow removal and salting - everyone shovels snow!
- Help with student dismissal
- Other duties assigned by supervisor

EQUIPMENT OPERATION: Power tools, hand tools, backpack vacuum cleaners, auto scrubbers and sweepers, high-pressure cleaning machines, and cleaning chemical dispensers.
WORK SCHEDULE:
- Twelve (12) months per year /40 hours per week
- School Year: 8-hour shift Monday-Friday
- School Breaks: 8-hour shift (day)
- Summer: 10-hour shift Monday-Thursday (day)
- Overtime may be required (possible weekends)
WORKING CONDITIONS: Employee must be able to work indoors and occasionally outdoors in typical seasonal weather conditions.
