Cupping Lab Technician/Coffee Trader Support

Royal New York, located in South Plainfield NJ, is family-owned company specializing in sourcing and importing specialty coffee and teas from around the world. We are passionate about supplying unroasted coffee and a variety of teas to specialty roasters throughout the United States.

We are seeking a self-motivated, positive professional to support our Quality Control and Trading teams. This position is a fully in-office role. The ideal candidate prioritizes attention to detail, strong organization skills, diligent record keeping, and ability to communicate clearly and proactively.

Responsibilities:

• Create, organize, and exchange purchase and sales contracts with domestic and international suppliers and clients; the primary responsibility entails data entry, interoffice document management, and the professional email exchange of purchase contracts with suppliers.
• Primary person responsible for the setting up, breaking down, and recording data in daily coffee and tea tastings known as “Cuppings.” Cupping allows traders to evaluate, score, and compare various aspects of the coffees and teas we source. Accurate preparation of Cuppings and maintaining the cleanliness of the cupping room after tastings are important.
• Assists in the preparation of customer and supplier samples to be roasted and/or dispatched to clients.
• Responsible for taking notes during tastings and entering notes into computer.
• Responsible for keeping the cupping room presentable for potential client/supplier visits.
• Perform other duties as required.

• Prior knowledge of the coffee & tea industry is PLUS but not required.
• Position requires work in a general office setting, including standing stationary and moving throughout the office, performing tasks on a computer, exchanging ideas, organizing products and materials, and operating general office equipment.
